Surgical Scheduling Coordinator

Full-time / Day-shift
UM Capital Region Health - Largo, MD



POSITION SUMMARY



Under the regular supervision of the Front Office Supervisor and Business Operations Manager, performs administrative duties and is responsible for scheduling surgical procedures Coordinates with the Surgery Center and anesthesia for appropriate utilization and staffing for the upcoming schedule. Utilizes Centricity scheduling system for operations within Surgical Services. Acts as liaison between UMCRH-MG and/or the surgery center personnel to facilitate scheduling procedures.



Principal Duties:


  • Schedules Interventional Procedures


    • Schedules appointments/procedures appropriately and arranges for specialty equipment/services.

    • Completes required authorizations and referrals for services as needed.

    • Gives routine instructions to customers when scheduling appointments/procedures.

    • Processes registration for patients and verifies insurance.

    • Tracks receipt of written orders for tests on outpatients and follows through on obtaining written order.

    • Observes patients waiting for procedures and assists with basic patient care when needed.

    2. Front Desk Duties

    • Collects co pays from patients as required,

    • Registers patients checking in,

    • Assists department as needed with clerical duties,

    • Provides telephone support for the department.

    3. Performs related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS




    Education:



    • High school diploma or GED required


    Applicable Experience:



    • One year of medical office experience involving basic computer use and application of office procedures required. One year experience in scheduling, insurance verification and advanced computer use is preferred.
