MGBMG provides a wide range of offerings, including primary care, behavioral and mental health, specialty care, outpatient surgery, endoscopy, imaging, lab services, infusion, and urgent care both digitally and in person in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.



The Opportunity



The Medical Director for Behavioral Health at the MGB Medical Group will lead the development and implementation of the vision and strategy for the MGB Medical Group behavioral health service and provide clinical oversight of this service, in close partnership with the MGBMG Executive Director for Behavioral Health (BMH). The Medical Director will report up to the Vice President of Medical Affairs for MGB Behavioral and Mental Health with a dotted line to the Associate Chief Medical Officer/Vice President of Medical Affairs for the MGB Medical Group. They will work closely with collaborators across the MGB system, including colleagues at MGB Behavioral and Mental Health, the other psychiatry services within MGB, the MGB Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO), and Population Health Management (PHM) to ensure alignment with the MGB vision and key metrics. The Medical Director will have direct clinical oversight of approximately 5-7 FTEs and programmatic oversight of an additional 6-9 FTEs at the outset, with additional expansions over time.



Responsibilities



Administrative oversight:


  • Development of vision and strategy for the MGB MG behavioral health service


    • Includes clinical, fiscal, operational aspects

    • Includes the initial and growth/maintenance phases

    • Incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, an appreciation of socioeconomic determinants of health, and a focus on patient and provider experience as foundational elements of the plan


  • Socialization of strategies with MGB leadership, entities within MGB MG, and other stakeholders

  • Participation in practice transformation to launch integrated behavioral health models across MGB MG, with particular attention to practices that have had limited to no experience with such models

  • Relationship-building with referring providers of other specialties and other behavioral health services within MGB

  • Representation of MGB MG and community perspectives

  • Collaborations with PHM and Value-Based Care to ensure seamless implementation and integration of PHM programs

  • Accountability for MGB OCMO quality metrics pertinent to the behavioral health service

Clinical management:


  • Collaboration with HR Partners for recruitment and hiring of staff

  • Oversight of quality of care, with a focus on clinical outcomes

• Oversight of psychiatrists responding to eConsult requests from MGB MG PCPs


  • Active involvement in provider privileging, credentialing and performance management, including Performance Improvement Plans when necessary

  • Performance evaluations

  • Compliance with regulatory requirements, in collaboration with the MGB Office of the Chief Medical Officer

  • Maintenance of a work environment characterized by generosity, integrity, constructive interactions, mentoring, and respect for diversity and differences


Please note, this leadership position is for 0.4 FTE. The expectation is that the Medical Director will maintain a clinical footprint within MGB in addition to this administrative role, preferably at a community-based site.




Qualifications


  • 6+ years of experience as a practicing psychiatrist required

  • A minimum of 3 years in a leadership role (preferably of a clinical service)

The ideal candidate will also:


  • Demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to behavioral health in the areas and populations served by the MGB Medical Group

  • Possess experience with integrated behavioral health models and/or primary care behavioral health, including understanding of financing structures and billing opportunities

  • Have a track record of successful program development, implementation/change management and collaboration/communication with a broad range of stakeholders

  • Be skilled at bringing together stakeholders and motivating and engaging team members and collaborators to achieve MGBMG/BMH strategic goals and initiatives
