Answers phones, call bells, door. Uses the nurse call system to gather patients or have them come out for meetings with staff. This requires working from the nursing station in proximity of the call bells, door phone and main phone line for the majority of the shift.
Organizes meetings (Staff, UBC, Legal hearings, family meetings, etc)
Transcribes meeting minutes
Sets up appointments for patients
Assists patients in completing paperwork, menus, goals papers, basic applications
Ensures that outpatient providers receive copies of the discharge information
Transcribes and updates forms, procedures, memos, etc.
Maintains stock of unit supplies and patient supplies
Maintains organization of files, closets and storage spaces
Performs JC Audits: follows up and reports deviations from expected findings
Assists in maintaining bulletin boards and updating data
Maintains current files forms resources and handbooks.
Ensures that the nursing station is clutter free and all staff personal belongings are stored in the breakroom.
Reaches out to other departments as needed to ensure patients needs are met (EVS, Lab, Cardio, respiratory, dietary, ect.)
Maintains student schedule for providers
Enters provider schedule into Tiger
All other duties as assigned

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of clerical/secretarial experience; preferably in a healthcare setting. Demonstrated keyboard skills.
Successful completion of the SHS unit secretary course.
Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served.
He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department's policies and procedures.
