Join us in shaping a supportive and wellness-oriented campus environment as a mental health counselor. In this pivotal role, you'll be a key contributor to campus wellness services, guiding students towards a balanced and successful college experience.

You will serve alongside a high performing and caring team in the Health and Wellness Services department that incorporates both medical and counseling student services. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a team dedicated to maximizing the quality of student care. This 11-month full-time position is based at our scenic Alfred campus and may require occasional evening/weekend hours as well as travel to support students on all three campuses.

Primary Functions:

  • Deliver individual and group counseling to students seeking assistance with personal concerns.
  • Perform crisis intervention and consults, and/or refer to psychiatric or medical resources as needed.
  • Facilitate case management & care coordination advocating for client-centered services such as health care, psychiatric care, housing, food insecurity, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate and timely clinical documentation in the Electronic Health Record system.
  • Collaborate with and provide consultation to other departments/offices (i.e. faculty and staff)
  • Develop and deliver training and development workshops for faculty, staff, and key stakeholders in your area of expertise including student leaders and residential life professionals.
  • Assists in processing student withdrawals, leaves of absence and re-admissions as directed.
  • Serve on college and division committees as deemed appropriate


Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, or a related field.
  • NYS licensure or eligibility for a limited permit in NYS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Substantial counseling experience as well as proficiency in crisis intervention and patient care coordination.
  • Ability to exercise and apply sound judgment and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of data
  • Experience in electronic medical record keeping systems
  • Experience with telehealth services and virtual video meeting software
  • Substantial experience/training working with diverse populations including college-aged students (teens to early twenties)
  • Ability to effectively engage with groups of students, faculty/staff, and parents on topics related to mental health and wellness
