JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform Ultrasound Exams - Obtain, review and bring together pertinent patient history, physical examination, and supporting clinical data to facilitate diagnostic results. Provide interpreting physicians with an oral summary of technical findings. Prepare patient for examination; explain procedure while performing exam. Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize limitations of the ultrasound equipment. Perform various diagnostic procedures at the patient's bedside when deemed necessary by the ordering physician. Use independent judgment and problem solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information to optimize patient care.
Educate - Provide patient and public education and promote principles of good health. Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged. Instruct and train physicians, residents, and students about the principles of fetal ultrasound.
Administration - Perform order entry of ultrasound exams with proper diagnosis code. Utilize the ultrasound-computerized digital imaging system. Utilize the teleradiography system for physician off site viewing. Prepare and maintain necessary logs and reports.
The fetal sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical diagnosis. The professional level of this health care service requires highly skilled and competent individuals who function as integral members of the health care team. The diagnostic sonographer must be able to produce and evaluate ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The diagnostic sonographer must acquire and maintain specialized technical skills and medical knowledge to render quality care. This level of diagnostic sonographer must be able to perform high level obstetrical ultrasound exams for the high risk obstetrical patient for the Fetal Care Center.
