We are currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager for our Washington and Greenville, NC Plants.

SUMMARY:

The EH&S Manager will primarily be responsible for continually improving safety by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety behaviors while ensuring compliance of all safety procedures. The ideal candidate will create and implement organizational safety guidelines, promote a culture of safety in the workplace, and perform regular site inspections to check compliance.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to those listed in the Summary section above, the following are duties necessary to meet the minimum requirements of the position. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Develop, Lead, and Execute strategies to drive the site-wide safety culture towards minimizing safety risk and achieving an injury free operation.
  • Partner closely with the Director of EH&S and execute initiatives provided by the Corporate organization.
  • Implements and drives continuous improvement activities and best practices.
  • Administers and oversees the environmental aspect of the facility and the safety programs within the facility.
  • Champion employee empowerment to identify and address safety concerns, and generate new ideas related to safety and health.
  • Promote and participate in employee involvement programs such as project teams, committees, and internal training.
  • Actively participate in incident investigations and resulting recommendations for improvement, which also includes tracking metrics, preparing and filing safety incident reports, and applying findings.
  • Carry out safety risk assessments prior to starting a new process, including safe installation of equipment through internal and external resources.
  • Maintain compliant safety and environmental records that includes air, wastewater, storm water, and hazardous waste permits
  • Lead plant incident and plant non-conformance investigations and ensure closure of corrective actions.
  • Develop, create, and deliver safety training to employees as required.
  • Participate in defining safety training requirements for employees to assess and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, insurance, and internal safety requirements.
  • Maintain and update as needed SOP's for all safe work practices and equipment, and utilize them in the day-to-day training, including in meeting industry safety standards.
  • Effectively interact with all internal functional job levels and with external agencies and resources in order to maximize the effectiveness of the safety improvement process.
  • Maintain and increase professional knowledge and expertise related to the fields of environmental protection, occupational health, and industrial safety. Staying up-to-date with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts at the plant and for the EH&S function.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned. This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or Industrial Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the EH&S field, preferably in the manufacturing or metal fabrication industry
  • Mix of education and experience will be considered
  • Proficient PC Skills to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, detail-oriented, and effectively prioritize time
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing effective safety programs which also coordinates with Company EH&S strategy.
  • CPR/ AED and first aid certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience in risk assessment, risk mitigation, operations management, and quality control
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong team spirit and interpersonal skills
  • Research and analytic skills
  • Knowledge of relevant software packages

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to office, warehouse, and plant environments. The work environment will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in certain areas. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
