Health organizations that become part of Risant Health will continue to operate as regional or community-based health organizations serving and meeting the needs of their communities, providers and health plans while gaining expertise, resources, and support through Risant Health's value-based platform. Risant Health will operate separately and distinctly from Kaiser Permanente's core integrated care and coverage model while building upon Kaiser Permanente's 80 years of expertise in value-based care.

Description of Function

The Chief of Staff at Risant Health will play a crucial role in the organization's development and execution of its operations. The function supports the Risant CEO and executive leadership in building Risant's capabilities, particularly those uniquely required for value-based care organizations and enabling the success of Risant's healthcare organizations in their own local community contexts. The function also supports design and implementation of strategic initiatives and risk management for the organization.

Position Summary

The Chief of Staff will report directly to the CEO of Risant Health. The Chief of Staff (CoS) will be responsible for extending the leadership reach of the CEO. They will manage complex cross-functional projects, support business processes and operations, provide support for the Risant Board, run special projects on behalf of the CEO, and proactively identify and mitigate risks. Additionally, the COS will manage change and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

Principal Responsibilities

The Chief of Staff will be responsible for owning and managing the following pieces of work:

  • Consulting: Supports the CEO and senior executive team in business decision-making. Serves as an expert consultant to align and coordinate diverse stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives by engaging appropriate stakeholders, building partnerships, setting goals and priorities, developing solutions, facilitating decision-making, resolving issues, and presenting to senior executives. Provides expertise on industry conditions and trends, developing requirements for complex business solutions, leveraging partnerships, gathering requirements, and assessing costs and benefits.
  • Special projects: Manages complex, highly visible or specialized, cross-functional projects and/or programs by coordinating stakeholders; recommending or assigning team resources based on project needs and team member strengths; consulting in the development, analysis, and management of project/program plans; collaborating on the coordination of project/program scope, schedules, and resource forecasts; proactively monitoring and identifying project/program/business initiative risks, issues, and trigger events; developing mitigation plans and strategies; and resolving or escalating risks or issues as appropriate.
  • Data analysis: Synthesizes complex data and situations to determine key decisions and actionable opportunities. Oversees the assessment of strategic performance metrics to support business initiatives by leveraging partnerships with data analytic teams to ensure the translation of business requirements into analytic specifications. Provides advice on appropriate data analysis tools and approaches to assess performance. Provides advice on suitable data gathering and analysis methods (e.g., process observation, hard data, etc.)
  • Change management: Champions change management plans associated with business initiatives by leveraging and developing key stakeholder relationships to obtain support and buy in for changes; partnering with executive management, project/program champions, and business pwners to communicate and align improvement initiatives to guide long-term business strategy; and empowering stakeholders to embrace a change management mindset, understand intent and purpose, and foster a culture of change.
  • Business process analysis: Develops requirements for large-scale, complex, or specialized business, process, or system solutions across business domain(s) by developing and leveraging partnerships with key stakeholders and cross-functional teams as appropriate; providing guidance in the use of multiple business requirements gathering methodologies to identify business, functional, and non[1]functional requirements; and ensuring the development and documentation of comprehensive business cases to assess the costs, benefits, and ROI of proposed solutions.
  • Solutions/process development and implementation: Drives the development and implementation of long-term business initiatives, systems, and/or processes to a desired future state by maintaining an expert understanding of how current processes impact business operations across multiple domains. Develops and leverages stakeholder partnerships to identify the operational needs and impact of requirements on upstream and downstream solution components. Provides options and recommendations to executive management and business stakeholders on how to integrate solutions and deliverables with current systems and business processes. Oversees the identification and validation of value gaps and opportunities for process enhancements or efficiencies to ensure future growth. Oversees the establishment of appropriate governance and workgroup infrastructures to accomplish growth outcomes.
  • Business initiative execution: Facilitates organizational alignment and prioritization of business initiatives. Ensures the business priorities and deadlines are met and coordinates, obtains and distributes resources. Refines strategic plans as appropriate. Manages competing and conflicting objectives to ensure cohesive outcomes. Removes obstacles that impact performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly and influences the completion of project tasks by others. Solves highly complex issues, escalating and resolving issues as appropriate. Ensures delivery of measurable results and alignment with strategic objectives.

The CoS will be responsible for maintaining strong working relationships with leaders at Risant, member organizations, and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals (KFH).

Experience & Education Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Experience
  • At least 4 years of experience in leadership role with or without direct reports
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of experience in one of the following areas: consulting, project management, data analytics, operations or a directly related field

OR
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Services Administration, or related field and at least 8 years of experience in consulting, project management, data analytics, operations or a directly related field

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Required in Business Administration, Human Resources, Business, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Operations or related field (flexible).
  • Master's Degree in Business Preferred in Administration, Public Health, Health Services Administration, or related field.

Additional Qualifications (preferred):
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization
  • Experience delivering presentations to executive management and developing / delivering executive communications
  • Experience consulting in a strategic capacity on highly complex or highly visible projects, programs, or initiatives, working with senior leaders at the VP level or above.
  • Experience conducting business analysis, including ROI analysis and quantifying the value of business initiatives, and using data analytics
  • Experience implementing large or complex projects or programs, including designing and evaluating for scale based on the size of implementation.

This position has a preliminary projected target base salary of $146,700 to $193,600, which is subject to change as additional market data is acquired. The position is also eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive wellness, time off, savings and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
