Job Summary

The Program Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of the Alaska Workforce Alliance to support industry workforce needs across Alaska. This position is responsible for working on initiatives that align with the strategies outlined in various statewide workforce initiatives, including the Alaska Maritime Workforce Development Plan. This position focuses on project coordination, data interpretation, and stakeholder engagement to ensure workforce development initiatives meet the needs of multiple industries. The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with industry partners and other stakeholders to track progress, manage data, and ensure effective communication of project outcomes.

Essential Functions
  • Program Coordination: Plan, develop, and coordinate workforce development initiatives in response to Alaska's industry needs, ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope. At times, the Program Coordinator may focus on specific needs of the Maritime Industry.
  • Alaska Maritime Workforce Development Plan: Assist in the implementation and advancement of the strategies outlined in the plan, focusing on initiatives that address both maritime and broader workforce needs.
  • Collaboration: Work with the Executive Director to organize working groups and manage relationships with internal teams and external partners to achieve program goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with industry members, educators, government agencies, and other stakeholders to identify workforce needs, plan solutions, and facilitate meetings and collaboration.
  • Data Interpretation & Management: Collect, analyze, and interpret industry-related data to inform workforce development strategies. Use data to identify trends, track progress, and provide insights that guide decision-making.
  • Reporting & Evaluation: Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of workforce development initiatives, ensuring that data-driven insights are used to adjust strategies as needed. Prepare and present reports on project outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Grants & Funding Opportunities: Work with internal colleagues to identify applicable grants and funding opportunities to support workforce development efforts. Collaborate with internal and external teams to meet reporting requirements and ensure compliance with funding stipulations.
  • Communication: Develop and distribute information related to workforce development initiatives. Review and edit documents to ensure clear communication of goals and outcomes.
  • Public Engagement: Represent the Alaska Workforce Alliance at meetings, conferences, and events, raising awareness of Alaska's workforce needs across multiple industries,
  • Website & Digital Updates: Maintain and update content related to workforce development on the Alaska Workforce Alliance website.
  • Special Projects: Complete special projects as assigned by the Executive Director, assisting in the development and launch of new services or programs that align with workforce strategies.
  • Some travel within Alaska may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

While this position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities, the Program Coordinator is accountable for leading specific projects, coordinating partner efforts, and ensuring that initiatives align with the organization's goals.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Workforce Development Experience: Familiarity with workforce development strategies, particularly those relevant to Alaska's industries.
  • Data Interpretation & Management: Familiarity in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting industry-related data to inform strategic decisions and project progress.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Organizational & Program Management Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and prioritize duties under tight timelines.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Ability to collaborate with diverse groups, including industry members, educational institution and community stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with data management systems and website content management.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Experience: Minimum of four years of experience in project coordination, workforce development, or a related field
  • Experience working with nonprofits, educational institutions, government agencies, or industry partners is preferred.
  • Grants & Funding: Familiarity with identifying grants and funding opportunities and collaborating to ensure reporting requirements are met.
  • Residency: Must be an Alaskan resident with a valid state driver's license.
