Responsibilities
Maintain awareness of the competitive advantages within the industry to facilitate the bidding process.
Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
Obtain accurate quotes for materials and systems to establish precise cost estimates.
Utilize Microsoft Office applications, Project, and AutoCAD a plus.
Interpret and understand blueprints, schematics, and built-to-print drawings.
Review, breakdown and otherwise interpret specifications, rules, requirements, drawings, and other technical data.
Demonstrate a general understanding of systems aboard vessels.
Perform ship checks aboard vessels.
Develop a detailed itemized listing of required work tasks based on a review of bid requests, associated documents, and ship checks.
Produce in-house labor takeoffs and estimates for required work. Interface with foreman as required.
Produce material takeoffs and estimates for required work. Interface with purchasing agents and suppliers/vendors to obtain quotations.
Interface with subcontractors to obtain estimates on projects.
Develop long lead and critical material lists as required.
Develop estimates, submittals, proposals, and bid summaries in quantitative and narrative form.
Analyze subcontractor quotes to determine the best choices for sourcing.
Work closely with Project and Yard Managers to compare subcontractor to in-house costs to make outsourcing decisions.
Develop in-house labor budgets, and notional sequencing along with task and overall project schedule durations.
Work with Project Managers to develop repair or production plans.
Lead transition from 'opportunity' project to 'live' project by communicating with Project Manager and other team leads project and estimate details used in bid.
Identify the risks, opportunities, and benefits.
Demonstrate teamwork and cooperation with other departments and employees.
Manage competing demands and changes in approach or method.
Look for ways to enhance and champion quality in all areas of responsibility; utilize feedback to enhance performance.
Monitor and report on activities and provide relevant management information to customers and upper management.
Maintain company proprietary and sensitive data.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong background, skill, knowledge, and experience with vessel systems and means, methods, and materials used in vessel repair and construction.
Excellent communication skills with clients and able to communicate well on technical subjects.
General knowledge of a wide range of marine vessels.
Excellent at reviewing, and interpreting specifications, rules, and technical data to develop takeoffs and estimates.
General understanding and familiarity of marine classification and flag rules and requirements.
General understanding of "marine best principles".
"Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite, particularly skilled in Word and Excel."
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
Solid understanding of basic accounting principles.
Familiarity with blueprints and ability to read plans.
2 - 4 years of construction experience preferred.
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
