Battery/electrochemical Lab Technician

Calion is a U.S. technology and manufacturing startup that is developing and commercializing pioneering ionocaloric refrigeration and heat pumping technologies to enable non-hazardous and zero-global-warming potential cooling and heating.

Greenhouse gas emissions from current refrigeration and heat pumping technologies are on track to contribute up to 0.5 degrees of global warming by 2100. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the refrigerant problem so that we can cool the planet down, one-less-refrigerant-at-a-time.

Role Description:

Calion is seeking a laboratory technician that will aid the chemistry and engineering teams with characterization and operation of our electrochemical system, including the electrolyte, electrodes, and the flow cell. The individual will also help with lab management, upkeep, and organization.

What You'll do:

- Prepare electrolyte solutions

- Characterize electrolyte solutions (in-house electrochemical analysis techniques)

- Assemble, run, and collect data from custom electrochemical Cells

- Operate/troubleshoot flow cells

- Record and organize cell data results

- Slurry casting / electrode fabrication

- Maintain/organize chemical and hardware inventory

- Maintain/manage general lab upkeep

Qualifications

- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science (or related fields)

- Strong interest in learning battery science/ electrochemistry

- Hands-on laboratory experience

Would-be-nice:

- Experience in electrochemical and/or desalination-adjacent flow systems

- Proficiency in programming

- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
