Responsibilities:

• Develop and apply machine learning/deep learning algorithms to various areas of interest, including integration of genomic and biomedical data, variant interpretation, detecting machine anomalies, and application to massive datasets in oncology, reproductive health, autism and rare diseases, among others


• Develop bioinformatics algorithms for genomics application


• Develop and apply informatics-based big data techniques to develop new diagnostic tests and assays


• Mentor and scientifically lead junior members of the team


• Build strong collaborative relationships with diverse groups within and outside of Illumina

Requirements:

• Senior 5+ years of experience in bioinformatics and machine learning applications in genomics ($159,400 - $239,200)


• Staff 6+ years of experience in bioinformatics and machine learning applications in genomics preferred ($175,300 - $262,900)


• Strong understanding of genomics and relevant genomics applications


• Strong software engineering skills in C++ and Python


• Strong mathematical background


• Strong communication skills


• A team player


• Demonstrated experience with deep learning including TensorFlow, Theano, Torch, with publications of deep learning research in machine learning conferences (NIPS, ICML, ICLR etc) a big plus

The estimated base salary range for the Senior / Staff Bioinformatics / Deep Learning Scientist - Foster City, CA (San Francisco Bay Area) role based in the United States of America is: $159,400 - $239,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
