Job Description:

Post Doctoral.Post Doctoral.Associate
Neuroscience - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24008202)

Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Developmental Neuroscience

A postdoctoral position is available in the Sorrells lab in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. Our lab studies the development of limbic brain regions in human brain samples, non-human primates, and rodents. We are particularly interested in forms of neural plasticity using animal models with a cross-species and evolutionary perspective. Our goal is to determine how memory and emotional circuits are constructed from embryonic stages into infancy, childhood, and adolescence and how complex behavioral functions emerge from these circuits. We use confocal and electron microscopy, as well as cross-species comparisons alongside single-cell RNA-sequencing and time-lapse confocal microscopy, to investigate these questions in vivo and ex vivo. See our lab website and recent publications for more information about our work.

We are seeking enthusiastic scientists with an interest in studying neural plasticity from the cellular to the behavioral level. Candidates would use time-lapse confocal microscopy, viral tools, and the latest approaches to study cell biological questions in the developing nervous system. Interested individuals could study neural stem cell populations and immature neurons in mice, humans, and non-human primates. Ideal candidates should have in vivo imaging experience in neural plasticity and animal models of neurobiology, as well as strongly driven scientific curiosity, problem-solving skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Must have a Ph.D in Neuroscience and in vivo multi-photon microscopy experience in transgenic animal models. This position offers the opportunity to participate in growing a new research program and to work in the highly collaborative, collegial environment at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. See cnbc.cmu.edu and https://www.cnup.pitt.edu/ for more details.

Interested candidates should send a CV, statement of research interests, and contact information for two references to shawn.sorrells@pitt.ed
