Medtronic is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Associate for Strategy to join our Medical Surgical team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing strategic initiatives that drive growth, innovation, and market leadership in the field as a part of our vision for the Medical Surgical Portfolio. In this role, you will collaborate closely with teams across the Portfolio to develop and implement strategies that address complex business challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the healthcare landscape.

There is a preference for this role to sit in Boston, MA but will consider other US locations for the right talent.

Day in the Life and Key Responsibilities:


  • Strategic Planning: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive strategic plans for the Medical Surgical Portfolio, aligned with Medtronic's overall corporate objectives and growth initiatives.

  • Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth market analysis, including competitive intelligence, market trends, customer insights, and regulatory landscape, to identify opportunities and risks for the business.

  • Portfolio Management & Analysis: Drive portfolio optimization efforts by evaluating current product offerings, assessing gaps, and recommending new product development or acquisition opportunities to enhance Medtronic's competitive positioning

  • Business Development: Collaborate with business development teams to evaluate potential partnerships, alliances, and M&A opportunities that support strategic objectives and accelerate growth

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, marketing, sales, finance, and regulatory affairs, to ensure alignment and execution of strategic initiatives throughout the organization.

  • Project Management: Lead large-scale, complex projects from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards while effectively managing risks and dependencies.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including key opinion leaders, healthcare providers, regulatory agencies, and industry partners, to drive collaboration and support strategic objectives.

  • Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor the success of strategic initiatives, track progress against goals, and provide regular updates to senior leadership.


Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic planning, program management, or business development or advanced degree with a minimum of 4 years experience


Nice to Have

  • Strong understanding of Medical Technologies, including robotics, minimally invasive surgery, imaging, and navigation systems.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful strategic plans, driving growth, and delivering results in a complex and dynamic environment.

  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams, inspire collaboration, and drive accountability.

  • Strong project management skills, with experience leading large-scale initiatives from concept to commercialization.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed organization and adapt to changing priorities and business needs.

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$128,000.00 - $192,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
