Job Description:

Responsibilities & Essential Duties:

1. Reports directly to the Board of Directors (hereafter called the Board) and works in cooperation with appropriate committees of the Board. Develops agendas and related material for Board meetings. Attends and participates in all Board meetings. Ensures the Board is aware of positive as well as negative ramifications of proposed actions.

2. Keeps the Board informed of legislation and research concerning developmentally disabled individuals. In addition, keeps self and Board informed of needs of developmentally disabled individuals.

3. Established and maintains working relationships with public and private agencies, as well as other appropriate professionals.

4. Established and maintains funding sources, both public and private.

5. Writes and submits grant proposals.

6. Ensures that company conforms to all applicable Laws and Regulations.

7. Ensures that company has the appropriate insurance coverage for all agency activities.

8. Prepares annual budget in coordination with Program Directors, Accounting Department and the Board. Implements same when approved.

9. Does public relations work.

10. Plans, directs, and implements the business of the company in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. With Board approval, develops policies and procedures for same.

11. Implements Board decisions.

12. Ensure staff receives scheduled in-service sessions on appropriate issues.

13. Ensures appropriate staffing levels through appropriate personnel action. Ensures timely, meaningful evaluations are given to all staff in accordance with the personnel policy.

14. ls responsible for the health and safety of all employees and program participants when under the jurisdiction of the company.

15. Using an agency or personal vehicle attend off site meetings, trainings, transport consumers as needed or attend other business related activities as required.

16. Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be required for successful job performance.

Education and experience requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited University
  • 3-5 years experience as the senior management level, managing staff
  • 3 or more years of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities/DDS = developmental disabilities services industry, ideally within CA but can be other states
  • 5 or more years experience working within the nonprofit sector
  • Familiarity with the standards of CARF... The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities
  • Familiarity with CA title 17 and title 21

Working Knowledge of:

1. Knowledge of the laws and regulations related to work programs, day

programs and adult development center programs.

2. Empathy and knowledge of persons with disabilities.

3. Windows based computer programs in word processing and data base

preferably Microsoft Office.
