Perspectives, Inc., is a small consulting firm focused on the needs of science, technology, and engineering organizations, especially the Department of Energy's national laboratory system. Perspectives' engagements center on helping clients consider the broader landscape for their contributions in leading-edge R&D areas. We help our clients to understand their competitive position and differentiation; to clarify and strengthen their value proposition and message delivery; to understand market factors and the scientific landscape for strategic initiatives; and to assess projects and portfolios.

Because of the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain / hold a federal government security clearance is required. Applicants located in the Southwest U.S., especially in New Mexico, are preferred.
Position
We seek a project lead who can work with clients to identify technical and external intelligence priorities and to lead studies that summarize the state-of-the-art for a particular field. Project leads play an important role in guiding Perspectives' research on the technical and competitive landscape based on knowledge of the client's efforts.
Perspectives also supports external advisory boards for R&D activities, and leading some of these engagements will be a significant responsibility for the project lead. External boards are chartered to review and assess programs and play a very important role in advising our clients on strategy. Project leads work with the board members to produce a report of observations, findings, and recommendations.
Our clients are highly accomplished individuals working within demanding organizations with very high standards. The position requires strong professional and interpersonal skills and the ability to foster client relationships and build new engagement opportunities.
The project lead is required to work across a variety of disciplines so must be adept at quickly becoming proficient in new areas.
Desired qualifications include:
Strong academic pedigree with at least an undergraduate degree in a STEM or business / project development or management field.
Experience with the DOE's national laboratory system or comparable expertise with other R&D laboratories, preferably 5+ years as technical staff or manager.
Management and / or strategy consulting experience aligned with the type of work identified above.
Experience performing research and analysis and / or review and summary of open-source information.
Excellent writing skills. Our primary products are written reports (for instance, synthesizing and analyzing the state of a given field or market).
Strong organizational and project management abilities (e.g., PMP certification).
Ability to work independently (as well as collaboratively with colleagues and clients).
Ability to think critically about new technical topics and / or business initiatives.
Comfortable starting new projects with sparse information and working in collaboration with the client to determine the breadth and depth required.
Other Information
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain / hold a federal government security clearance is required.
Applicants located in the Southwest U.S., especially in New Mexico, are preferred.
Must be willing to work remotely out of home offices (80-90% of time) with some travel required.
Benefits include a 401(k) (matching to 5%), paid time off, and a monthly stipend in lieu of health insurance ($520 per month for full-time staff).
Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
We are open to either full-time or part-time contributors (1/2 time or more).
