SUMMARY: This role actively participates in the engineering management team, which consists of 5-7 leaders who all report to the Engineering Director. The role provides daily thought leadership, mentoring, coaching, and active coordination of work assignments for personnel in the team, which is a staff of 3-5 engineers. The individual in this role will interact with all phases of the New Product Development (NPD) process including up front CAD Modeling and design definition, supporting new product launches, as well as supporting new products immediately after launch.

Ensures accuracy and completeness of engineering team deliverables
Drives accurate and timely technical decisions with alignment from all key stakeholders
Provides support to manufacturing on new products, especially in the areas of BOMs, Routings, design updates, and technical production questions
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees the daily workflow of engineers and/or technicians as assigned
Supports the hiring and training of new associates
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
Handles discipline and termination of employees in conjunction with Human Resources, as needed and in accordance with company policy
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have 10+ years minimum of sheet metal design experience, strongly preferred in the areas of material handling or material conveyance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Hands on and unafraid to dive in to problem solving in many different environments
Solid knowledge of manufacturing and engineering fundamentals
CAD proficiency is required, meaningful professional experience in Solidworks is preferred
Working knowledge of ERPs (SyteLine is preferred) as well as PLM or PDM Systems
Basic knowledge of electrical controls, operation, and circuit design
10+ years of experience in tolerancing, GD&T and machine design in particular
Working knowledge of power transmission systems including drives, pulleys, belts, motor specification, gearboxes and more
Familiarity with conveyors and material handling systems is preferred but not a requirement
Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships with all staff at all levels of organization
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Four-year degree in a relevant engineering field, preferably mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing
10+ years' experience in an applicable engineering field, 5-10+ years in a leadership role
Proficiency in modern manufacturing methods and processes
Proficiency in Lean problem solving, mastery of these skills is preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical schematics and customer specifications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Excellent math skills are required. Individuals in this position must be able to perform engineering calculations employing algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as required.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient with 3D CAD Software, SolidWorks, or 3DInventor
Proficient with 2D AutoCAD
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Outlook
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. Employee spends time on shop floor, which could be significant portions of the day at times and require lifting up to 50 lbs. This role also requires spending time sitting in front of a computer.
TRAVEL:
Typically 15% or less
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee works in the office but does have frequent interaction with personnel on the shop floor. Typical workdays are split between the two environments but can sometimes be skewed heavily towards one or the other depending on work content at any given time. The employee may also be required to travel occasionally to work in customers' plants or at suppliers. In plants, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed but does not require hearing protection in most areas. This position is on site in Port Clinton, OH.
