Job Description:

About the Company: The Quality Manager plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing company's quality standards. This position is responsible for ensuring the overall quality of the final product, aligning quality systems with customer and company needs. The Quality Manager oversees internal audit scheduling and follow-ups, manages the entire quality program and food safety, and leads the quality team and lab operations.

About the Role: General Responsibilities:

  • Quality Assurance Programs: Develop and implement robust quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and regulations.
  • Quality Control Processes: Establish and maintain quality control processes throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular audits and inspections, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with production and engineering teams to optimize manufacturing processes for enhanced product quality.
  • Product Testing: Lead product testing protocols, analyze data, and implement corrective actions based on results.
  • Supplier Relationships: Foster strong relationships with suppliers to ensure high-quality raw materials.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and lead the quality control team, providing guidance and support to achieve objectives.
  • Responsible for all Customer complaints and returns working directly with customers to resolve issues.
  • Substitute SQF Practitioner: Act as the backup SQF Practitioner when necessary.
  • SQF and Quality System: Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF and quality systems, including food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan.
  • Procedure Documentation: Document review procedures for the SQF and quality systems.
  • Communication: Communicate essential information to relevant personnel to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF and quality systems.
  • Training and Competency: Ensure site personnel have the required competencies and that training needs are identified, resourced, and implemented.
  • Efficiency Improvement: Implement strategies to reduce waste and improve quality.
  • Food Safety System Integrity: Maintain the integrity of the food safety system during organizational or personnel changes, and notify the CB of any blackout periods affecting unannounced re-certification audits.
  • Staffing and Alignment: Ensure the department is appropriately staffed and aligned to meet food safety objectives.

Job Tasks:

  • Audit Documentation: Document internal and external audit findings.
  • Corrective Actions: Document corrective actions and customer complaints.
  • Procedure and Policy Development: Develop and update procedures and policies.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure manufacturing processes comply with national and international standards.
  • Customer Requirements: Ensure customer quality requirements are consistently met.
  • Protocol Enforcement: Ensure employees adhere to product quality and safety protocols.
  • Quality Testing: Conduct, plan, and monitor tests on products and materials to ensure quality.
  • Sampling Procedures: Develop sampling procedures and guidelines for recording and reporting quality data.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, compile, and analyze quality data to identify improvement areas.
  • Meeting Participation: Actively participate in company meetings related to quality and safety.
  • Continuous Education: Engage in ongoing education to stay compliant with national standards and ensure product quality and safety.
  • Supplier Management: Maintain and update the list of approved suppliers.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with customers.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using computer programs such as Microsoft Word.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and represent the company in quality-related matters.
  • Decision Making: Skilled decision-making with excellent judgment on product dispositions and issue resolution.
  • Quality Systems Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems, Change Management processes, Document Management, and Document Writing.
  • Film Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of plastics manufacturing, use, testing, and examination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Quality Assurance, etc.) Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 5+ years experience in Quality within manufacturing environment(s)
  • HACCP certified
  • Food defense certified
  • Experience in plastics industry is a must. Experience in thermoforming, blow molding, injection molding, blown film, polyolefins, thermoplastics, extrusion, packaging, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, polyethylene, polypropylene or similar would be a plus.
