ABOUT THE ROLE:

Carries out various analytical tasks related to the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of electrical systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform a variety of design tasks, including conducting field surveys, performing calculations, preparing drawings and specifications, selecting equipment, developing material lists, estimating labor and material costs, and updating systems related to the analysis and design of distribution facilities for basic construction projects.
  • Provide technical field support, including staking and making design modifications to address on-site changes.
  • Apply Engineering Guides, Construction Standards, National Electric Safety Code, NBIC, and ASME regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies concerning customer charges and the sale of company facilities.
  • Deliver designs and field assessments.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding project-related information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Math, or Physics, along with completion of 6 credit hours in Algebra/Trigonometry/Calculus and 6 credit hours in Electrical/Electronics/Physics coursework.

In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, an Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Math, Physics, or a related technical field, plus 2 years of design or utility distribution experience.

Alternatively, completion of 60 college credit hours toward a technical degree, along with 2 years of design or utility distribution experience.

Must possess a valid state driver's license.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures within a specific area of expertise.
  • Understanding of theories, practices, and procedures in a discipline typically gained through a college or university degree.
  • Ability to prioritize safety as a core value.
  • Familiarity with Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members, leaders, and customers.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including ArcFM Designer, SAP, and MS Office Suite.
  • Eagerness to learn and expand capabilities and skills.
  • Basic understanding of electrical drawings and site plans for commercial and industrial customers, as well as highway drawings.
  • Ability to comprehend voltage drop, flicker calculations, sketches, bills of materials (BOM), and other technical details.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Office environment with extensive computer usage.

Outdoor work environment requiring navigation of rough terrain, exposure to hazardous conditions, and working in extreme or inclement weather while wearing PPE.

Overtime availability is required.

Must be on-call outside standard hours, including weekends and holidays.

Occasional travel required, including overnight stays.

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and carrying up to 28 pounds. Occasional pushing, pulling, and climbing. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Frequent eye/hand/foot coordination and repetitive motions.
