Join the team and live with Verve!Position SummaryThe Retail Trainer works in several contexts, including the Santa Cruz Roastery and and the Bay Area cafes. This trainer splits time between Training Operations (40%) and in-store training/cafe shifts (60%). Training Operations, will conduct coffee lab training, create new content, develop recipes, distribute training materials and fulfill administrative responsibilities, including scheduling and meetings. During cafe shifts, the Retail Trainer guides skill integration, coaching, development. and product quality audits.Key Responsibilities Deliver unparalleled coffee education and hospitality to our employees through training program implementation and direct trainingMaintain and deliver core training curriculum as guided by the Head of Training and Development Possess an in-depth knowledge of Verve policies, products, and standardsBe a Brand AmbassadorMaintain positivity and enthusiasm at all timesEnsure that a superior quality product is being served to customersFollow all Verve policies, procedures, and processesHave a passion for coffee!Training Responsibilities (60%)Schedule and deliver training modules, including Orientation, Menu Training, Register and Cafe Operations, Milk and Barista training to employeesKeep the training lab immaculately organized and clean after each training. Order supplies as needed. Track training hours and employee progress using Hold meetings with Retail Managers and Regional managers to strategize on goals Assist in monthly coffee launch logistics, dialing in coffees for the cafes and sharing recipe specificationsHost cuppings and Coffee Education classes for all departments. Complete projects, develop content and create cafe tools as directed by the Head of Training and Development Help with Wholesale Training and events as needed Champion and emulate company mission, vision and values at all timesCafe Responsibilities (40%)Conduct Shadow shifts with employees to integrate new skills into the cafe environment.Fill in for cafe shifts as needed, demonstrating expertise in product knowledge, hospitality, and drink standards.Coach employees on product quality, cleanliness, and work-flow efficiency.Ensure that all cafe employees are trained and performing to Verve Coffee Roasters (VCR) standards.Conduct store visits and audits for quality, providing coaching and corrections as necessary.Identify and report equipment-related issues affecting product quality.Create a superior experience for both employees and customers.Anticipate and address customer and store needs effectively.Follow cafe schedule and adhere to VCR cash handling procedures.Adhere to health, safety, and sanitation guidelinesFollow health, safety and sanitation guidelinesQualifications and RequirementsMinimum 3 year experience in specialty cafe environment preferredAdvanced knowledge of espresso and beverage preparationPrevious training experience and leadership experience in a caf setting a plusExperience with equipment calibration preferred Open availability, including some weekends, holidays and ability to report to the Santa Cruz training lab during weekday business hoursExcellent verbal and written communication skills Strong Organizational, planning and time management skillsAble to multi-task and deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced environmentAbility to communicate effectively with others, written and verballyInclusive, respectful and professional and the ability to work as part of a teamOccasionally lift and/or move up to 20 poundsThe hours can fluctuate due to the needs of the business.Must maintain current state-issued Food Handler CardValid CA Drivers license and access to a reliable vehicleAbility to travel to all Verve caf locations in Palo Alto, Menlo Park and San FranciscoBenefits and CompensationAvailable to all employeesCompetitive Hourly wageEmployee Assistance Program (EAP) - Physical and mental health, financial and legal coaching available at no cost to the employee Free coffee with every paycheck and 30% employee discount on all merchandise, whole bean, beverages, and food itemsContinuing coffee education classesMentorship and positive work environmentPaid sick timeAfter 60 days of employmentHealthcare Benefits (for full-time employees working over 30 hours per week) including medical, dental, vision and 401kHoliday Pay after 90 days of employment.
