Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION

The basic function of the Project Engineer:

The Project Engineer is a vital member of the Landmark Testing and Engineering team whose primary purpose is to properly plan, schedule and executed projects. The Project Engineer is expected to maintain and complete the projects on time and within budget without sacrificing quality workmanship and the company's reputation. The Project Engineer is an extension of the Geotechnical Manager and is expected to have extensive knowledge of the construction industry and construction material testing. While most of their time is expected to be spent at our primary office and job site locations in St. George, the Project Engineer is expected to occasionally travel to job sites throughout Utah, Arizona, and Nevada where we have active projects. The Project Engineer is expected to be a professional member of the Landmark Testing and Engineering Team and help relieve the day-to-day responsibilities of the Geotechnical Manager.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Professional Engineer

Must fulfill the following:
• Civil Engineering Degree
• 3 years of Geotechnical Engineer experience
• Masters in Geotechnical Engineering would be a plus

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
• Ability to operate a computer and enter, format, and translate data using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and QuickBooks.
• Must be to understand and adapt to the geotechnical software.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
• Must lead by example in all areas of professionalism and command the respect of others.
• Must be able to plan, be organized.
• Must be able to interact and develop relationships with clients.
• Must have proficiency in all aspects of Geotechnical testing:

o Construction testing

o Reports

o Inspections, etc.

o Stay up to date on continued education for Geotechnical practices
• Compromise and find win,win solutions to issues and problems.
• Must be able to understand complex issues and problems, and consistently reach sound business decisions.
• Must possess the ability to handle client and co-worker issues with tact.
• Must possess the ability to coordinate a variety of routine operations and administrative activities simultaneously without losing control, poise, or professionalism.

Physical Requirements:
• The Project Engineer must be able to walk throughout the office, laboratory and job sites navigating furniture, workbenches, and equipment.
• Must be able to sit at and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to travel to and throughout construction job sites and work areas without endangering themselves or others.
• Must be able to lift buckets weighing up to 80 pounds with no assistance and help move equipment up to 250 pounds using company-provided jacks, lifts, and team effort.
• Must be able to lift 10 pounds repeatedly in a strenuous environment.

Physical Body Positions:
• Standing for long periods of time.
• Sitting for long periods of time using a computer.
• The position occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, walking and crouching to transport construction-related materials within the field and laboratory.
• Body Movements: Use of hands, arms, legs, eyes, and voice.

Work Environment
• This position requires working in a construction environment with moderate to high noise and an abundance of equipment.
• This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with a commitment to meet strict deadlines.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Geotechnical Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure weekly Geo meeting is attended and help define weekly EEE's.

2. Ensure contact is made with clients at the beginning, during and conclusion of projects.

3. Ensure project set ups are done with efficiency and effectiveness to guarantee quality workmanship.

4. Ensure thorough review and understand provided scope of work and budget for your assigned jobs.

5. Ensure that the use of labor, equipment and materials is planned, scheduled, and executed in a manner that minimizes the total amount of time needed to complete the work in a quality manner.

6. Ensure your weekly time is submitted to the billing clerk without errors.

7. Ensure attendance with a coachable mentality at your 30-day and 90-day review from your hire date.

8. Ensure bi-annual (April and October) performance evaluations are attended following company policy and accept coaching and/or training, as necessary.

9. Resolve problems or issues whenever possible before seeking Geotechnical Manager.

10. Ensure all Investigations are scheduled and clients are informed.

11. Ensure all Blue Stakes are scheduled and clients are informed.

12. Ensure you are accurately submitting figures on reports.

13. Ensure accurate completion of Pre-Compliance and Compliance Letters in the defined timeline.

14. Ensure all reports are written and delivered to the client.

15. Ensure all labs tests are up to date.

16. Ensure all test pits and borings are logged.

17. Ensure you are performing Perc tests and soil texturing certificates in the defined timeline.

18. Ensure all pavement evaluations are reviewed and completed.

19. Ensure Distress Evaluations are completed and submitted timely and accurately.

20. Ensure Rockwall Designs are completed and submitted timely and accurately.

21. Ensure you are accurately completing Final Grading and Inspections Reports in the defined timeline.

22. Ensure you are communicating effectively with clients.

23. Maintain all department equipment.

24. Ensure you will strive to look for new processes.

25. Ensure the company is recognized and regarded as highly skilled, dependable and able to meet demanding project schedules without sacrificing quality or efficiency.

26. Maintain and bolster Landmark-Client relationships in the St. George area and on out-of-town jobs.

27. Ensure time off requests are submitted as soon as possible.

28. Must build and support the direction and culture that Landmark Testing and Engineering cultivates.

29. Maintain confidentiality of company financials, employees, and customer information.

30. Act in an ethical, courteous, and professional manner always.

31. Come to work on time and do not abuse lunch/break periods and follow company policies.

32. Promote a positive attitude on the job.

33. Perform any other tasks that are asked without hesitation.

34. Communicate to the Geotechnical Manager of any delays in job duties, issues or problems.

35. Contributes ideas that positively impact the operations of the business.

36. Cooperate, communicate, and coordinate with other functions in the company.

37. Continuously looks for ways to improve processes, systems and methods; have a problem-solving mentality.
