The Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) program is aimed at delivering mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) services to severely impaired individuals who suffer without access to essential treatment. The Certified SUD Counselor, working under limited supervision, is responsible for providing comprehensive services to clients dealing with substance abuse. This includes conducting assessments, developing treatment and recovery plans, identifying behaviors that hinder rehabilitation, and facilitating both individual and group counseling sessions.
How will I contribute
Deliver individual and group counseling services, case management, education, and community outreach, while facilitating referrals to necessary services and resources. Conduct intake and program orientation for participants, including assessments of psychological and social functioning, and develop, implement, and review Individual Treatment Plans in accordance with Title IX regulations and program protocols. Perform breathalyzer and saliva tests on participants as appropriate, documenting results accurately. Prepare progress reports for participants as needed. Interact with the criminal justice system and referral sources as necessary to support participant needs. Maintain comprehensive participant files, charts, attendance schedules, and documentation of group progress and completion of vocational or educational activities to ensure compliance with Title IX regulations and program policies. Monitor participant payments and assist with fee collections, conducting financial assessment interviews in line with Title IX regulations and program protocols. Recommend leaves of absence, dismissal/suspension, reinstatement, or completion for participants according to Title IX and program policies. Communicate regularly and clearly with the Clinical Supervisor and support staff to ensure program effectiveness, including appropriate caseload management and scheduling. Adhere to all Kings View policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality of program participants in compliance with Title IX, Title 42, and HIPAA regulations. Attend scheduled staff meetings to foster collaboration and program improvement. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning and success of the program. May encounter risk of working with persons with SMI (serious mental illness) that may include, but not limited to persons in mental health crisis, persons that may be intoxicated or impaired by drugs or alcohol, persons who may be DTO (danger to others), DTS (Danger to Self), or GD (Gravely Disabled). If such situations arise, staff may be required to call local emergency personnel to help deescalate the crisis, use crisis intervention techniques, and consult with supervisor as soon as practically possible.
What I bring
Associate Degree in Behavioral/Social Sciences or related Alcohol and Drug Certification, in good standing by an agency approved and recognized by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is required at time of hire Class C Driving License 2 years related experience. Associate degree or the equivalent sixty college semester units with emphasis in behavioral or social sciences if required for the position. Three years abstinence if there is a history of substance abuse. Completion of 40 hours per two-year period of related training is required for continued employment for registered/certified counselors Must maintain counselor certification as required by State law. Knowledge and compliance with CLAS standards. Familiarity with electronic health record systems. In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions Ability to take clear and concise notes, along with basic computer skills. Strong communication and compassionate listening abilities are essential, as is the capacity to self-regulate and remain calm in crisis situations. Skills in engaging clients and safely de-escalating situations using strength-based techniques are important. Proficiency in data entry across various electronic systems is required, ensuring accuracy and integrity. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are necessary for building effective relationships, and integrity in handling sensitive information confidentially is vital. Additionally, the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team is crucial. Strong desire to help those in need, with an understanding of the importance of empathy, cultural competency, and building connections. Action-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills. Highly organized, capable of multitasking and managing multiple priorities effectively. Demonstrates outstanding follow-through on tasks. Flexible, reliable, and a fast learner who thrives in a changing environment. Possesses strong interpersonal skills and is a dedicated team player. Membership in the California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (CADTP) is encouraged. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
