The Medical Director for Infection Control and Faculty Member in the Division of Infectious Diseases (ID), both at MGH, is a key part of the Infection Control team at Mass General Brigham and the Division of Infectious Diseases at MGH.
Infection Control
This role will report directly to the MGB Chief of Infection Control. The physician in this role will provide clinical support in the day-to-day operations of the MGH infection control team, supporting the execution of system infection prevention and control strategies and processes. This role will maintain sound organizational relationships, work well within a matrixed and integrated health care system, and will be facile in performing bi-directional communication with MGB leadership and the site. Because this is a leadership role in an active change management environment, this leader will need to demonstrate flexibility and open mindedness as the contours of this position will actively evolve over time.
Infectious Diseases
This role will report to the MGB ID Division Chief. The physician in this role will provide patient care in the ambulatory clinic and inpatient ID consultative services. Teaching ID fellows and other trainees will be expected when serving on the teaching-based ID consult services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Infection Control
Provide essential input to the MGB Chief of Infection Control to inform the strategy, policies, and guidelines to ensure a highly reliable system and the quality of healthcare care within MGB is of the highest quality
Execute the MGB infection prevention and control strategy the site level
Liaise and collaborate with system and site teams as needed
Understand data provided by the system team and use knowledge of local practices and culture to identify areas of opportunity for improvement as well as communicate to the system areas which are at risk
Provide strong bi-directional communication between the system and the site(s), with accountability for distribution of organizational communication (including pertinent data and analytics) from MGB to the site and vice versa
Prepare reports and presentations pertaining to infection prevention and control as requested
In conjunction with system leadership and site teams, implement and coordinate infection prevention and control initiatives
Support the site(s) infection prevention team including availability for case review and investigations
Collaborate with all members of the MGB Infection Control team to ensure site preparedness and execution of site visits by regulatory bodies

Infectious Diseases
Provide patient care in the ambulatory clinic and inpatient consultative service, with a focus on one or more areas of need, including travel clinic, mycobacterial infections, orthopedic infections, and infections in people who use substances.
Provide education and mentorship to trainees, including clinical fellows, residents, and medical students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate (required); medical degree (required); background in healthcare (required); active medical license (required); Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases (required)
Infection Control
Minimum of 3 years relevant infection control experience (preferred)*, relevant professional society membership (e.g., SHEA, IDSA, APIC; required)
Experience and demonstrated knowledge in the following areas, with either experience or demonstrated interest and commitment to applications in:
o Principles and practice of infection prevention and control
o Literature as it relates to infection prevention and control
o Evidenced-based infection prevention and control strategies
o Infection prevention and control implementation
o Surveillance for healthcare associated infections
o Requirements for maintaining accreditation, standards, and regulatory compliance
o Prevention of infections and management of exposures in healthcare personnel
Must be available to work in case of a facility-declared emergency
Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews
*Note that a physician board certified in infectious diseases but without the aforementioned experience may potentially still be considered for the role, provided they have demonstrated a commitment to a career in infection control and have met other attributes as listed
