Director, Planning Design and Construction

The Director of Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, design, and construction processes for all capital projects and major renovations at University of Vermont. Provides leadership, supervision and direction for architectural, space use and construction services personnel. Oversees development and revisions of the Campus Plan and ensures projects align with the Campus Plan and the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan. Management of permitting, state and local regulatory requirements, and oversight of the campus space inventory, associated database and AutoCAD building diagrams. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Facilities Management.
Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering from an accredited college or university with a minimum of ten years of related work experience including supervisory experience required. Demonstrated complex, hands-on experience in overall management of capital project design, construction, and financial management, including development of project budgets and projections. Thorough knowledge of construction/design trade industry, including knowledge of construction materials and their application, familiarity with construction related software (Bluebeam, Revit, Procore,etc.). Knowledge of local, state and federal codes, laws, and regulations related to the construction industry. Experience with design and construction contracts, contract documents, plans and specifications. Demonstrated leadership in a collaborative, management decision-making environment, including direct experience interacting with top management, including boards of trustees, presidents, provosts, deans, and directors, and others on a regular basis. Proven ability to handle multiple priorities concurrently is required. Effective communication, presentation, problem solving and team building skills are essential. Able to reconcile differing viewpoints and to make constructive policy recommendations. Management experience supervising high level professionals.
Master's degree in architecture or engineering from an accredited college or university desirable.
150,000 - 165,000 annual salary
