Department Summary


The UNT Department of History is home to UNT's Oral History Program, to the UNT Military History Center, and to a number of digital scholarship projects. The department hosts the university's minor in Mexican American Studies, as well as its minor and certificate in Africana Studies and the undergraduate certificate program in Food Studies. Several of our faculty members hold affiliations with the UNT Women's and Gender Studies Program or with the Latina/o and Mexican American Studies Program. We have 35 full-time faculty members; approximately 500 undergraduate majors and minors; and 100 graduate students.


UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.



Position Overview


The Department of History at the University of North Texas invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professorship in public history. The department welcomes applications from publicly engaged scholars who work in all geographical fields and time periods. The successful candidate will teach courses about public history methodology to both undergraduate and graduate students, establish relationships with local historical institutions, and coordinate an internship program to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students.

PhD in history or closely related field by the time of appointment.
