Position Summary:

The Camp Launch Lab Teaching Assistants will gain skills associated with leadership and teaching laboratories, and will enhance their skills in critical thinking, problem solving, mentoring, and communication. The Lab Teaching Assistants will work with the William & Mary Physics faculty to provide advanced instruction and a unique academic experience for 9th grade Campers. This includes aiding faculty in the laboratory setting, ensuring safety of Campers in the lab and addressing Campers' questions regarding lab procedures and concepts. The Lab Teaching Assistants will facilitate lab experiments with students after the instructors' lessons. Room and board, if needed, will be provided during 2 weeks of CL.


Conditions of Employment:


Dates of employment: 9am to 4pm (6 hour shift/1 hour lunch) Monday - Friday, July 15-26, 2024.


This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.


This position is a temporary (hourly) position not to exceed 6 months. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed on average 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.


This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.

Required Qualifications:



  • At least 3 years of science education classes in a university or college setting.

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of lab safety.

  • Experience in a lab setting.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in science.

  • Excellent communication and organization.

  • Recommendation from a physics faculty member.
