JOB TITLE: EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: BUL/SUPERINDTENDENT/PROJECT MANAGER AND/OR MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

PAY RANGE: $23.00 - $28.00/Hourly DOE

SUMMARY

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and disconnection of electrical operations present at assigned job sites. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical components of the equipment. Possess the ability to collaborate with your coworkers and with shipyard electrical department personnel on planning, execution, and any other necessary aspects of the job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, connect, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical and mechanical systems
  • Test and maintain electronic controls for machinery
  • Test and assess motors, transformers, generators, electronic controllers on machine tools
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance by periodically inspecting equipment, then locating and correcting problems before breakdowns occur
  • Advise management of and make repairs to equipment in timely manner to minimize safety hazards, lost time, and excessive costs
  • Replace items such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical components or wires
  • Troubleshoot, and repair or replace mechanical components of our equipment as necessary. Use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment in a safe and productive manner
  • Set, hook up, and test equipment prior to startup of a given project, disconnect upon project completion
  • May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by supervision for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner
  • All of the above requirements shall be completed in a safe and efficient manner so as not to cause injury to self or others, or damage to the equipment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

May direct two or more assistants at any given time. Must be able to direct them to perform in a safe and timely manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of safety protocols and standards in the manufacturing and marine industries
  • Knowledge of three-phase high voltage, control circuits, and be able to read schematic drawings.
  • Ability to provide effective direction and guidance to shipyard electrical department personnel and vendors
  • Ability to do simple math
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex written, oral, or diagramed instructions
  • Ability to read schematic drawings.
  • Color vision is required.
  • Must be able to take direction; interact knowledgeably and cooperatively with shipyard electrical department personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Technical or trade school experience is a plus
  • Marine industry and manufacturing experience a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be physically capable of working a 12-hour day. Requires average strength, physical dexterity, and agility
  • Must follow strict safety procedures
  • Must be able to regularly stand for long periods of time; work on scaffolds and ladders; work on top of machinery; work in confined spaces
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces, precarious places, and work well in close proximity to other employees
  • Overtime or shift work may be involved
  • Travel may be required
  • There may be risk of injury to self and/or others due to a hazardous environment, electric shock, falls, and cuts, etc

  • Computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, adding machine, scanner
  • Dehumidifiers, dust collectors, vacuums, forklifts, electrical disconnects and transformers, compressors
  • Electrical tools including hand tools and power tools and accessories
  • Mechanical tools
