Job Description:

Westminster Communities of Florida is the state's largest not-for-profit provider of senior housing and services and makes a difference in the lives of more than 7,000 residents and 2,500 team members, every day. We are looking for a full-time Accounting Supervisor. This role is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting functions of either the Life Plan or Housing Divisions of the organization.

Essential Job Functions:


  1. Supervision & Leadership:


  • Manage and mentor the division accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.

  • Provides support to community leadership. 


  • Financial Reporting:


  • Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Ensure timely and compliant reporting to internal stakeholders and external funders.

  • Review journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations.


  • Regulatory Compliance:


  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as nonprofit accounting standards and industry specific regulations (e.g., GAAP, OIR).

  • Work collaboratively with the internal auditor for both internal and external audit.


  • Process Improvement:


  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.

  • Develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures.


  • Collaboration & Support:


  • Work closely with other departments to provide financial information and support strategic initiatives.

  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding financial inquiries and accounting practices.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably within the nonprofit sector.

  • Prefer knowledge of the Office of Insurance regulation requirements for Life Plan Communities.

  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices.

  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Acumatica, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
