Pennoni is hiring! In particular, we are looking for a Staff Civil Engineer to contribute to our Municipal and Civil projects on a full-time, direct basis at our office in Newark, DE . This person will have the opportunity to work on a variety of Civil Engineering projects, including Water/Wastewater and Water Resources.


This person will be expected to perform a wide range of tasks depending on their skill set; this includes (but is not limited to) working on the design and planning for water & sewer conveyance / treatment systems, hydrologic & hydraulic modeling, stormwater planning, drainage / erosion / sediment control design, plan reviews, code review, feasibility studies, permitting, and report preparation. Additionally, in terms of career growth, we provide the choice between either a Technical Manager or Project Manager career track!



Primary Responsibilities:

  • As part of one of our most successful Civil Engineering groups in the Region, you will be tasked to support and manage a variety of projects for multiple clients in DE and PA!
  • Contribute to water resources infrastructure planning projects: design, permitting, inspection & construction administration (including pump stations, distribution, collection & conveyance, storage tanks, and treatment)
  • Perform zoning interpretation and prepare feasibility studies, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Design and detail of site layout, grading, roadway, and utilities.
  • Design and detail stormwater management: hydrologic & hydraulic, erosion control, etc.
  • Utilize advanced understanding of ordinances / regulations (local, state, & federal) as well as the relevant permitting process(es) to ensure compliance.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies.
  • Manage all aspects of project efforts and interface with clients.
  • Nurture existing client relationships as well as developing new clients.
  • Mentor junior-level staff.
  • Provide quality control of staff design & reports.
  • Prepare proposals and track project budgets for profitability.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.




Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Civil, Environmental, or a related discipline).
  • 4+ years of professional experience working in Engineering, preferably with design projects.




Preferred Qualifications:
  • PE license in DE and/or PA.
  • Project Management experience on multi-discipline projects is preferred.
  • Experience working on land development and infrastructure improvement projects; expertise with Publics Works Infrastructure and/or wet utilities is a plus!
  • Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g.: CADD, GIS, analytical programs, etc.); experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as HydroCAD, OpenFlows StormCAD, OpenFlows WaterGEMS, OpenFlows SewerGEMS, ArcGIS, and/or HEC-RAS is a plus!
  • Proficiency on standard office software applications: Microsoft Office 365 (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Proven ability to look at the "Big Picture" as well the project goals in order to coordinate various design disciplines accordingly.
  • Proven track record of demonstrating punctuality with consistent attendance.
  • Proven ability to work in an energetic & challenging team environment as a collaborative Team Player , especially while maintaining the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills, especially when working on a variety of projects while providing solutions to difficult issues.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
