The Design Build Manager will be responsible for planning, developing, organizing, and supervising the design efforts for major projects or for several smaller projects of moderate scope, starting with the bidding phase. This individual will also provide administrative and technical direction for design staff.
The Design Build Manager will provide the overall coordination of large transportation design-build projects from design conception through final construction acceptance. This individual will ensure that construction plans, plats, and specifications conform to all applicable standards and requirements. This individual will also provide oversight and supervision over the technical work of the design team. The Design Build Manager will prepare and monitor the project design budget and schedules, and will coordinate project design with federal, state and local agencies, utility companies, regulatory/approval agencies, elected officials, and citizens to resolve project issues.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initiate, coordinate, and oversee design projects and calculations.
Responsible for coordinating all design phases.
Research, plan, design, and administer engineering and design on Design-Build projects, applying knowledge of design, construction procedures and industry standards.
Function as the prime contact coordinating the resolution of design and engineering problems, reviewing progress, recommending alternatives and advising on project objectives.
Reviews and supervises proposed revisions to technical design standards and ordinances;
Develop or evaluate plans/criteria or special analyses required in support of the design effort. Provide consulting expertise within an area of specialization.
Review drawings and designer submittals for accuracy
Ensures construction plans and specifications conform to all applicable standards and requirements.
Prepares and monitors design budgets and schedules.
May conduct special studies or analysis of major importance requiring a staff of specialists or highly experienced engineers.
Interface with bidding and construction team and coordinate with construction approach.
Work with estimators and bidding team providing technical support and to manage coordination with designers.
Plans, coordinates, directs and supervises the work of a group of engineers or architects in the design and construction of heavy civil projects.
Ensures design meets project standards and agreed upon specifications and timeframes, and permit and regulatory requirements;
Provides technical engineering guidance and input on key projects throughout the conceptual, preliminary and final design and construction phases;
Participate in meetings with owners, partners and subs
Reviews and supervises proposed revisions to technical design standards and ordinances;

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Civil Engineering
5 - 10 years of related work experience minimum.
PE preferred
Design Build experience (contractor or designer side)
Ability to interpret construction drawings
Knowledge of means and methods and construction techniques
Knowledge of construction industry, trends, innovation, etc.
On-site and field experience on civil projects will be appreciated.
Knowledge and experience with Scheduling software (i.e. Microsoft Project and/or P-6), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
Demonstrated aptitude to understand engineering projects
Highly organized, capable of managing consistent flow of information to all necessary parties throughout the life of each project.
Supervisory experience preferred
Familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is also required.
Organizational ability - able to plan, prioritize, organize and monitor activities and projects. Able to work well in a group environment and foster a team approach.
