Department Introduction:

The Architectural Trades are an integral part of maintaining and improving the structures on campus. These shops provide a range of services to academic, research, library and special University facilities which include the following:

    Emergency ResponseRoutine MaintenanceRemodel Design ServicesRepairs & Alterations to Existing Structures
All skilled craftspeople, many with decades of experience on campus, these technicians are a vital resource for anyone planning a remodeling project in their building
Job Purpose:

Carpenter specialists work from blueprints, drawings, and oral or written instructions, and perform a variety of specialized functions relating to the construction and repair of wooden articles and/or, they perform journey level carpentry with little assistance from a leader or supervisor.
They may schedule their own work, determine work priorities, and diagnose problems independently. Work is generally performed in a wood working shop. The Carpenter, Specialist (Cabinetmaker) visits the work site to determine exact needs, makes sketches, removes items needing repair, etc. Work is carried out
independently, completed work may be spot-checked.
Core Duties*:
    Make patterns and models which involve forming complex shapes and close tolerances. Repair and construct cabinets, counters, counter tops, bookcases, etc., using wood, plastic, Formica, fiberglass, polyurethane, etc.Reconstruct furniture by cutting, shaping, and finishing parts as required.Select and match materials for color, grain, or texture.Repair and refashion high grade articles of furniture.Operate a variety of shop machines, such as circular saw, band saw, jointer, planer, wood lathe, drill press, crosscut saw, etc. Use cabinetmaker's power tools.Develop and create estimates for department projects to be used by the department and customers.May perform any of the duties described in the Carpenter, Maintenance and Museum specification or other duties as assigned.Adhere to safety rules.*Other duties may also be assigned

Education & Experience:
    Must have sufficient experience to qualify as a journey level cabinetmaker, with approximately four years actual work in the trade. This may include time spent in apprenticeship or in vocational training or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.Must have sufficient experience to work independently most of the time; must have demonstrated this ability in previous assignments at the journey level.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Must be skilled in the use of the tools, materials, and equipment of the cabinetmaker trade.They must also be knowledgeable of applicable ES&H and OSHA rules, regulations and requirements.Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written).

Certifications and Licenses:
    Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Non-commercial Driver's License.

Physical Requirements:
    Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License.

Working Conditions:
    May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The expected pay range for this position is $45.89 to $55.46 per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
