Job Description:




Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)




Salary: $55,151




The office of International Education and Global Affairs (IEGA) is looking for an International Student Success Coordinator, who will report to the Vice Provost for IEGA. This position will address international student retention and assist newly admitted students in navigating the often complicated university framework.






The International Student Success Coordinator will:





  • Liaise with campus partners, serve as a point of contact, and act promptly upon learning of any student concerns, in pursuit of their academic success

    • Campus partners may include: faculty and staff, ISSS, Advising offices, the Multicultural Resource Center, CARE Team, Services for Students with Disabilities, ELI, and the University Counseling Center, among others



  • Work collaboratively with Vice Provost IEGA on student retention data analysis

  • Be familiar with students who have been identified as being at risk

  • Establish a highly visible presence among international students from pre-arrival through graduation, using multi-modal interactions to encourage retention efforts

  • Engage in individual or group sessions with all international undergraduate students, with a particular focus on those from partner institutions (e.g., 2+2 programs), while also nurturing robust connections and rapport with graduate students

  • Coordinate diverse events such as welcome receptions, transportation services for arriving students, and graduation celebrations

  • Provide a wide range of programming initiatives to both current and admitted students centered around adjusting to life in the United States as well as academics

    • Topics to include housing, guidance through academic online platforms and resources, registering for classes, food, and employment opportunities, academic success in the US, plagiarism, and differences in higher education in the US vs. their home countries (ie, class participation as part of grade)



  • Develop strong connections with established International Graduate Student Organizations and bridge the gap between these organizations and newly admitted students

  • Promote the use of existing peer mentorship program and develop connections between domestic and international students via the mentorship program(s) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Establish Binghamton University as a compassionate, welcoming and success-oriented destination for international students by developing branding and country-specific messaging, in collaboration with Recruitment and Admissions staff as well as the Communications & Marketing office

  • Conduct focus group sessions with international students to learn about their experiences and continually adjust or improve upon services offered by Binghamton University

  • Increase Binghamton University's perception and reputation as a premier destination for international students to increase enrollment and pipelines through positive word-of-mouth endorsements






Requirements:





  • Bachelor's degree

  • Professional experience working in higher education and/or in advising or success coaching.

  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to be culturally adaptable and work well in diverse environments and with diverse clientele

  • Data driven and familiarity with reporting & analysis

  • Ability to work well under pressure and balance competing priorities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace and proven ability to learn and use new technology, including social media and university systems

  • Able and willing to work non-standard / varied working hours, and to travel

  • Must be able to travel extensively (domestically and internationally) independently, and must possess the required documentation to do so




Preferred





  • Master's degree

  • 2-3 years of experience in academic advising, student success, or other student support area

  • Knowledge of current retention issues and strategies in Higher Education

  • Previous experience in international travel
