Actuarial Manager (Business Risk Services)

Does this describe you?


Support team in leading and building the actuarial services practice as a component of the firm's overall insurance services practice, including:


  • Interface with, and support, audit, tax and consulting professionals in the insurance services practice

For the following responsibilities of the team, the incumbent will provide actuarial support:


  • Serve as the actuarial subject matter expert on specific client engagements, including audit support, regulatory consulting support, internal audit support and direct consulting to insurance companies.

  • Collaborate with audit, tax and consulting professionals to bring to bear coordinated services to the firm's insurance industry clients.

  • Conduct independent analysis of insurance company loss and loss adjustment expense reserve estimates by reviewing company calculations, performing independent calculations and modeling to develop a range of estimates.

  • Document results through written reports and detailed work paper documentation.

  • Evaluate an insurance company's compliance with actuarial standards and state/NAIC insurance regulations.

Audit support including:


  • Independent actuarial analyses in support of audit opinions of the financial statements of insurance companies

  • Peer reviews of actuarial reports and statements of actuarial opinion of other actuaries to evaluate the reasonableness of the data, methods, and assumptions and to confirm that all applicable actuarial standards were followed

  • Risk transfer analyses of reinsurance contracts and compare them to applicable accounting and regulatory standards

Regulatory consulting support including:


  • Serve as the actuarial subject matter expert in connection with state insurance department financial condition examinations, which focus on risk and solvency

  • Review the reasonableness of actuarial opinions issued by a company's appointed actuary

  • Conduct independent analysis of insurance company reserve estimates, including developing an independent range of estimates

  • Identify and assess risks and risk mitigation strategies, including critical risk categories such as:

  • Appropriateness of the reinsurance program

  • Appropriateness of underwriting guidelines

  • Pricing adequacy

  • Accuracy of reserving data

  • Reserve adequacy, including premium deficiency reserves

  • Conduct actuarial related exam procedures, document exam procedures and report on results


Actuarial consulting directly to companies, including services such as reserve analysis, reserve certification, review of underwriting guidelines, pricing adequacy analysis, evaluation of actuarial process, systems, and controls, ERM, ALM, ORSA, internal audit, reinsurance analysis, etc.


Evaluate economic capital models, capital adequacy models, stress testing, RBC analysis and other quantitative analysis.


    Qualifications

    • Approx. 5+ years of relevant experience

    • Bachelor's required, advanced degree preferred

    • FCAS, ACAS, FSA or ASA

    • Excellent actuarial technical proficiency, including excellent knowledge of, and application of, various actuarial modeling techniques and software applications

    • Experience in establishing and evaluating loss reserve estimates, financial modeling and analysis, risk management, product development, product pricing, reviewing reinsurance contracts and ALM

    • Excellent client relationship skills

    • Strong sense of urgency and client responsiveness

    • Ability to travel

    • Must comply with firm ethical and professional standards

    • Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills

    • Ability to manage time within established budgets

    • Knowledge of relevant GAAP, SAP and IFRS insurance accounting standards




    The compensation range for this role is $85.00 to $100.00 per hour. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
