Role Overview: The Rocket Motor Systems group is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This group is responsible for designing, developing, and manufacturing next-generation solid rocket motors for defense and space applications.


Responsibilities:


  • Conduct mechanical design and analysis of solid rocket motor components, including motor cases, nozzles, propellant grains, igniters, and ignition safety components.

  • Perform CAD design activities for mechanical components.

  • Conduct finite element analysis of structural and thermal systems.

  • Generate, review, and release product definitions (engineering drawings).

  • Create reports and presentations documenting analysis and other supporting work.

  • Present designs to peers and customers in design reviews.

  • Support prototyping, manufacturing, and test operations at our manufacturing facilities and suppliers' facilities.

  • Oversee the development of critical subsystems from inception to completion.

Required Qualifications:


  • 5-10 years of experience in mechanical design and analysis.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Proficiency in CAD software and/or FEA software.

  • Strong understanding of hardware manufacturability and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to travel to other sites, customer sites, or supplier sites as needed (10-25% travel expected).

  • U.S. Person status required due to access to export-controlled data.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with Solidworks CAD software and/or Abaqus FEA software.

  • Certification in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Expertise in engineering tool development using Microsoft Excel, MATLAB, and/or Python.

  • Experience with propulsion systems.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance.
