As part of the Integrated Bioanalysis (iBA) Team, you will work directly alongside the Global Executive Director to drive the strategy for, and lead, our US-based team, demonstrating strategic and scientific bioanalytical leadership across a broad array of innovative therapeutic modalities, such as T Cell Engagers, Cell Therapies, Gene Therapies NBEs, Vaccines etc.
You will drive the advancement of scientific knowledge across our Biopharma and Oncology portfolios leading dynamic multi-disciplinary teams responsible for the definition and implementation of bioanalytical strategies to support the AstraZeneca pipeline.
You will work alongside and manage key stakeholders, providing holistic portfolio oversight driving key impact to portfolio and will be the main interface with experienced and highly skilled bioanalytical scientist colleagues or our partnered labs, inputting to project strategy and delivery. The iBA group within Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS) provides broad discovery, preclinical, and clinical support including life cycle management across all therapeutic areas enabling pipeline delivery, decision making, innovation and advancement to improve the lives of patients through life-changing medicines.
Accountabilities:
Located at our research hub in Gaithersburg, US, you will provide strategic & scientific oversight and direction, leading a team delivering on bioanalytical strategies with a specific focus on Discovery Bioanalysis and Clinical Flow Cytometry. You will be responsible for the leadership, direction and development of the teams' capabilities, inputting into strategy, science, and tactical operations. In this role you will be highly visible; working across iBA and CPSS functions, alongside TA leads and stakeholders, and able to use scientific knowledge and expertise while working with a range of cross functional groups. You will need to use your experience and proven track record designing, developing, and delivering robust bioanalytical strategies. You will also work with colleagues involved in interactions with regulatory agencies and Health Authorities across a range of countries and geographies to mitigate risk, submit regulatory documents and respond to Health Authority questions. As a Subject Matter Expert, you will be responsible for enhancing the iBA reputation for scientific excellence by presenting at internal and external meetings, and publishing manuscripts.
The successful candidate will work closely with AstraZeneca laboratory groups within iBA and stakeholders across our discovery portfolio to ensure appropriate bioanalytical and platform strategies, scientific oversight and delivery of our pipeline while fostering an environment of scientific knowledge exchange.
Essential Skills/Experience:
PhD in immunology, molecular biology or related studies with at least 2 years industry experience
MSc in immunology, molecular biology or related studies with at least 5 years industry experience
BSc. in immunology, molecular biology or related studies with at least 8 years industry experience
Desirable for the role:
Proven experience as an independent leader and scientific subject matter expert in bioanalysis across a range of therapeutic modalities
Proven experience as an independent leader and scientific subject matter expert in bioanalysis across a range of therapeutic modalities
Proven strategic expert with the ability to drive platforms across modalities (e.g TCE's, Cell Therapy or Gene Therapy)
Ability to drive project-based early discovery assets by acting as Bioanalytical lead for projects up to candidate selection defining, leading, and implementing robust bioanalytical strategy to advance the portfolio.
Demonstrated ability as a line manager including ability to develop talent as well as portfolio oversight, resource planning and prioritisation.
Experience across a range of bioanalytical techniques to help evolve strategies to assess Pharmacokinetics, Cellular kinetics (CK), Biodistribution, Immunogenicity, Immune response, and Biomarkers.
Worked collaboratively with stakeholders, providing solutions to challenges and mitigating risk.
Skilled scientist able to discern the advantages and pitfalls of a range of analytical techniques.
In depth knowledge of concepts such of context of use of fit for purpose assay validation/ qualification in bioanalysis
Interpretation of integrated and complicated datasets
Ability to handle multiple projects and / or tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to develop, coach and mentor
Proven publication and presentation record
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $165,048.00 - 247,572.00 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
