Job Description Summary
Dr. Nacho Sanguinetti-Schecks's lab at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a full-time research specialist to start this winter (ideal start date February 2025). The lab studies the adaptive cognitive skills of different rodent models, Deer mice, Rats and Agoutis both in the lab and in the field. Thematically the lab focuses on how flexible behaviors in animals arise through juvenile Play Behavior and interaction with the environment. The ideal candidate has a background in physiology, neuroscience, or a related field and hands on experience with rodent research. Responsibilities include animal behavioral training and assisting lab members with research projects (e.g., collecting and analyzing data) as the need arises. The successful candidate will have ample opportunity to undertake independent research. This position will provide an excellent opportunity for someone planning to go to graduate school in biology, psychology and/or neuroscience.
Job Description
Dr. Juan Sanguinetti's lab at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a full-time research assistant to start earliest February 2025. The applicant must have a college degree and prior research experience working in an animal research environment, wet lab procedures, and some basic programing skills. The position will involve assisting in behavioral and electrophysiological investigations in rodents as well as wet lab procedures for rodent histology. The lab will concentrate on behaviors of play, spatial navigation and food storing. Some of the work might require Field Work in the rainforest studying rodent behavior.
Job Responsibilities:
The primary duties will involve assisting with lab operations; colony management; animal behavioral training and collecting and analyzing behavioral and physiological data; performing brain histology of rodents in the wet lab, genotyping, ordering and managing stock of lab supplies; and participating in scientific discussions about experimental design, analysis, and interpretation of results.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should have a BA or BS degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field, and 0 to 1 year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required by the time of employment, be eligible to work in the United States, and be willing to make a two-year commitment. Prior work in animal research environment and computer programming is an absolute must. Additional requirements include strong organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve and work independently. Experience with acquisition of behavioral, genetic and/or neurophysiological data is desirable.
