Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for providing an innovative and holistic approach to supporting student success for underrepresented minorities, first generation students, and/or at-risk students. Coaches will support student success by: strategically contacting students, providing learning opportunities focused on student success skills, digital literacy, growth mindset, interdependence and soft skills, and connecting students to critical support services as they complete adult education courses. Provide guidance to adult education student transitioning to college/post-secondary courses and/or the workforce. Serve all students as a TRUE Learning Community by promoting student success through student learning, student development, and student retention. This position is dependent upon grant funding.

Responsibilities


  • Pro-actively communicate with Adult Education students (both individually and in groups) to maximize enrollment, persistence, course success and retention. Maintain thorough documentation of all project activities and interactions with students.


    • Use the Arizona Adult Education Data Managements System to identify and follow up with at risk students in Adult Education courses and put in place appropriate interventions for success.



    • Engage Adult Education students in learning, college navigation, and personal growth activities. Refer students to all service resources necessary for their success.



    • Collaborate with student affairs, learning support, instructional personnel and other college staff and partners to create, modify and support student success efforts.



    • Operate multiple college systems to retrieve, communicate and submit information/data (Blackboard, AAEDMS, Office 365 etc.)



    • Collect evidence and evaluate student and academic services operations and processes; assist in designing metrics to measure quality of services; recommend improvements and modifications; summarize findings and prepares related reports



    • Actively participates in professional learning opportunities focused on equity and inclusion, learning support, and Online learning



    • Researches and recommends resolutions for technically difficult and complex student concerns. Analyzes confidential student information; identifies issues and discrepancies; formulates plans to support student success

    Marginal Functions:

    • The position may perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position to include participating in committee assignments and the recruitment and retention of students.

    Qualifications


    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate degree




    DESIRABLES:


  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

  • Work experience in a related field (adult education, case management etc.)

  • SPECIAL POSITION CONDITIONS: Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to meet the needs of students. Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required.     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Skills: Microsoft Office products, electronic mail system, and student database systems.

  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of learning and/or teaching students and staff.

  • Knowledge of the methods and practices used in conducting research, in the use of the internet as a tool, and in report preparation.

  • Knowledge of techniques and methodologies of student assessment.

  • Knowledge and skill in operating a variety of multimedia equipment, computer systems, hardware, and relevant software applications.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with staff, community leaders, faculty, students, and the public. Skill working in a diverse multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.



  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


    Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10 lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other facilities due to long periods of standing, sitting, and repetitive motion.

    Important Level Interpersonal Skills: Position engages in or requires some or all of the following: Alternative or combined human relations skills in understanding other people and influencing their behavior in order to achieve job objectives; must have skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to other person's point of view in order to influence their behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around; may provide direction, consultation, and/or training; deals with confidential information; has contact with students, program participants, and/or the public. This level of interpersonal skill is required in jobs which regularly interact with others with the organization or with the public. May provide work direction or function as a lead position providing work assignments, monitoring and give feedback to other employees. Time is required for interaction.




    WORKING CONDITIONS:


    Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
