Job Description:

Who We Are:


The Export and International Affairs Group in the General Counsel's Office serves as an internal resource on U.S. export control and economic sanctions laws and regulations, oversees the Institute's export compliance program, and drafts and obtains export licenses and authorizations from U.S. government agencies.


Objectives of this Role:


  • Provide guidance to staff on U.S. export control and economic sanctions laws and regulations including EAR, ITAR, DOE, NRC and OFAC, with a focus on ITAR.

  • Collaborate with staff to identify export compliance requirements, develop export authorization strategies, and support implementation.

  • Assist in preparing, submitting, and advising staff on export licenses and authorizations with various U.S. government agencies.

  • Provide outreach and training to Institute staff on U.S. export control regulations and promote compliance.

  • Assist with investigations into potential export violations in support of disclosures, audits and other areas, as assigned.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with technical staff to classify a variety of export controlled items, technology/technical data, and services (e.g. ITAR & ECCN determinations, CJ's and CCATs, etc.)

  • Assist in reviewing proposals, contracts, presentations, publications and marketing materials to identify export controlled information, and ensure export requirements are implemented

  • Train in preparing, submitting and advising on export authorizations (DSP-5's, Technical Assistance Agreements and Manufacturing License Agreements).

  • Collaborate with staff to monitor shipments against export authorizations and assist with documentation requirements.

  • Assist in developing, updating, communicating and continually train on export control regulations, policies and procedures.


Requirements:


  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Business, International Studies, or other related discipline.

  • 0-5 years: Experience in U.S. export trade compliance, including strong knowledge of ITAR and EAR; conducting export control classification analysis; drafting, submitting and advising on export licenses and authorizations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, virtual meeting platforms and a working knowledge of DECCS and SNAP-R.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to conduct meetings and staff training; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to think strategically and understand and timely address staff needs.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
