Job Description:

The Lloyd C. Elam Mental Health Center (MHC) is a division of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, in the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College. The Lloyd C. Elam Mental Executive Director serves as the designated authority of the Elam Center and is responsible for its governance and management. The Executive Director will participate in Elam Compliance committee, Leadership Team and Lloyd C. Elam Advisory Board to carry out the governance and management of the Elam MHC.



Daily Operations



  • Determine funding needs, research opportunities and design grant programs to support Elam MHC

  • Track grant applications, prepare and monitor grant budgets

  • Create a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) which supports the core values and mission of the Elam Center.

  • Maintain authority over and responsibility for the accountability of the QIP.

  • Maintain compliance for all applicable legal and regulatory requirements including for CARF accreditation, state and federal regulations

  • Identify and lead collaboration with agencies supporting Elam MHC

  • Participate in preparation for agency audits and accreditation visits for Elam MHC

  • Provide leadership and direction regarding the Elam Advisory Board

  • Provide leadership and direction regarding Elam MHC goals and Strategic Plan, annual reviews and fundraising to support the Strategic Plan

  • Be accessible and available to personnel and the persons served

  • Gather input and analyze data needed for key decision making for Elam MHC

  • Advocate for needed resources to carry out the mission of the Elam MHC.

  • Be available as the point of contact for maintenance of Elam MMC facility concerns

  • Ensure the flow of pertinent information to faculty, staff and persons served

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to provide evidence based mental health services in the Elam Meharry Medical Group Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic or other clinical service locations




Required Education and Experience



  • Masters, Ed.D., or Ph.D. from an accredited university or college with a focus in, psychiatry, psychology, or related health field. Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
