Under the direction of the store manager, the Store Manager Trainee will learn and work in all store functions including facilities maintenance, personnel management, sales, inventory control, merchandising, accounting, and customer service.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facility Management
Understand standard level of housekeeping and maintenance throughout the store, warehouse, equipment, vehicles and grounds
Learn security processes and procedures to ensure all security and safety systems are in order
Gain competency around Company image and ensure it is projected favorably at all times
Personnel Management
Learn all company and store policies and standard procedures
Assist with recruiting and interviewing prospective employees making recommendations to hire
Assist with new employee orientation process
Contribute to routine employee meeting schedule to provide safety, store, and new product training
Ensure all employees are following Company policies, procedures, personnel and safety rules
Sales Management
Understand store and grounds layout to achieve maximum utilization of selling areas
Supervise the display of merchandise for sales efficiency taking into consideration seasonal products and traffic
Assist in coordinating displays to coincide with advertising
Create in-store promotions and follow through with Company provided promotions to promote traffic
Inventory Management
Learn ordering process for feed and merchandise according to Company policies and procedures using appropriate forms
Gain understanding of market analysis
Assist in selecting appropriate product mix based on market trends and inventory turns
Learn pricing structure and proper margin levels for merchandise
Maintain appropriate contacts with suppliers according to Company policies and procedures
Learn store monthly and annual inventory processes
Accounting Management
Learn invoice processing
Understand receiving process for all vendors
Learn cash management procedures and maintain security over daily cash and bank deposits
Learn to prepare the daily cash report
Verify all credit sales are within terms
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent of two to three years in retail
EXPERIENCE:
Strong working knowledge of lawn and garden, agriculture and animals (Pet and Livestock)
Ability to handle many tasks at any given moment
Strong agricultural experience is preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job includes physical demands which include but are not limited to frequent standing, walking, working on a computer, push/pull and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and occasionally sitting, reaching upward & outward, squatting or kneeling.
