Texas Biomed is seeking a Regulated Science & Biocontainment Veterinary Technician Manager. This position manages a large team of technical and animal care personnel and ensures appropriate training and qualifications to conduct studies consistent with the approved study plan, IACUC, regulatory environment, biocontainment level, and applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
The Role:
· Manage, supervise, and lead the day-to-day activities of technical personnel, animal care personnel, and/or veterinary services personnel involved in biocontainment and regulated studies, including in vitro and small animal and primate studies.
· Provide oversight/guidance for planning work schedules, tasks assignment, workload coordination, and staff prioritization.
· Make decisions concerning talent acquisition and retention, employee relations and employment terminations, performance management (promotions, demotions, reviews, salary adjustments).
· Assist leaders in identifying opportunities to streamline, improve, and/or automate business processes while actively implementing changes as needed.
· Maintain regular communication with leaders and reporting employees related to upcoming tasks and deadlines.
· Oversee procedures for the recording of data, preparation of study notebooks and preparing reports of test results and/or experiments as required by study directors and principal investigators.
· Assure that technical staff follow and comply with standards of veterinary care and properly execute IACUC approved research activities.
· Develop and manage the technical training program including, but not limited to determining training requirements, scheduling training sessions, and maintaining records of such training as required by regulations and SOPs.
· Understand rules and guidelines set forth by regulatory bodies such as OLAW, NIH, IACUC, and USDA.
· Participate in on-site IACUC, USDA and AAALAC inspections and be responsible for the subsequent coordination of corrective actions applicable to manager's processes and team.
· Communicate clearly through oral and written means with direct reports, veterinarians, study directors and principal investigators.
Our Ideal Candidate:
· Bachelor's degree in veterinary or biological or related health sciences required. Master's Degree preferred.
· Five (5) years experience supervising technical staff for regulated studies, up to and including GLP compliant studies.
· AALAS (LATg) Certification or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) preferred.
· Biocontainment experience a plus.
· Ability to direct and train a team across demanding and changing deliverables; must have demonstrated an exceptionally high degree of adaptability coupled with the ability to organize the work of others coordinating the technical aspects and training of one or more segments of a research program involving laboratory animals.
· Must have knowledge of laboratory operations and procedures, and be able to maintain quality control, safety, and attention to detail.
· Ability to work variable/extended work hours on frequent basis to include evenings/nights, weekends, holidays, and any other unforeseen circumstances; and to work independently inside the ABSL-3/ABSL-4 laboratories for prolonged periods of time without access to food, water, or bathrooms in auditory and physical isolation while wearing applicable protective clothing such as: positive pressure suits, power air purifying respirators, and/or other appropriate personal protective equipment.
· Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Justice (DoJ) Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval, and CDC Select Agent Program approval to include initial and periodic drug screenings.
