Department Summary


One of the goals of Student Activities is to help students get connected and involved on campus, to maximize their collegiate experience. Through a variety of events, services, and resources, the department provides students and student organizations with opportunities to connect to the university and to other students. Student Activities promotes a sense of community and loyalty to the University while serving to enhance the social and developmental growth of students as individuals or as members of organizations. It does this by coordinating annual campus-wide events that promote spirit and tradition on campus, supporting the North Texas Spirit program, and providing services and resources to student organizations.


The student organization team consists of five staff members who work collaboratively to connect students with involvement opportunities and to provide support to student organizations. While each member oversees specific service areas, the team is collectively responsible for developing a comprehensive program for student organizations. The Coordinator of Student Organizations is responsible for organizing the registration and management of, and developing programs and services for, over 450 student organizations. While this position focuses on providing resources and services for student organizations, the primary aim is to foster the mission of Student Activities, the Division of Student Affairs, and the University of North Texas.



Position Overview


The Coordinator of Student Organizations is responsible for organizing the registration and management of, and developing programs and services for, over 450 student organizations.


Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:


- Manage annual registration process for student organizations (non-Greek, non-Sport Club)
- Manage new organization formation and approval process, coordinate New Organization Bootcamp, and create resources to help forming organizations be sustainable
- Coordinate programming, including Involvement Advising, to help students get involved in student organizations and other campus activities
- Serve as lead OrgSync (Engage) administrator and provide user training to students and staff
- Develop resources and training to improve the effectiveness and success of student organization officers and advisors
- Track advisor eligibility compliance with Texas Education Code
- Advise the Student Government Association Intern Program
- Develop and distribute student organization and advisor communications
- Attend designated high-risk student organization events
- Train and supervise a graduate assistant
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date program and service webpages
- Answer student organization-related questions about topics including policy, procedure, successful management, getting involved, etc.
- Collaborate with student organization team members to develop a comprehensive student organization program
- Conduct presentations and trainings, including student organization orientation, related to student involvement, development, and leadership
- Prepare, administer, and monitor budget for respective programs and services
- Facilitate assessment activities that help improve Student Activities and services for student organizations and their officers, members, and advisors
- Create reports for respective programs and services
- Promote and advertise/market Student Activities and respective programs and services to the general campus community
- Develop relationships and work closely with other departments across campus (e.g., Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Center for Leadership & Service, Rec Sports)
- Serve as part of Student Activities staff support at all campus-wide events
- Represent Student Activities on division and university committees
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director



Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in related field and two years' of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Knowledge of campus activities programming and event planning
- Knowledge about issues related to student development at the collegiate level

- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to professionally and effectively advise and mentor college students
- Strong planning and project management skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed



Preferred Qualifications


Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field



Required License/Registration/Certifications
