The Lab and Simulation Technician primarily provides assistance for labs for the Health Professions Programs to meet the instructional goals of the department, program, division, and college.
This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant funding. Once the funds from the grant that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.

Minimum (1) year of healthcare simulations full-time work experience.
Equivalency/substitution: Will accept (2) years' experience in healthcare related field and minimum (1) year of healthcare simulations experience in lieu of degree

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is heavy work which requires the person to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

Work is performed in a relatively safe, stable, and secure indoor office setting.

HEALTH PROFESSIONS SIMULATION DUTIES:
Works under the direction of the Director of Labs/Simulations to ensure simulation events are set up, are functional, and meet student learning outcomes.
Prepares for simulation sessions, both nursing and interdisciplinary, through props placement and moulage including the creation and management of documentation related to simulation activities.
Act as a Standardized Patient as needed.
Operates the mannequins, equipment, media, telephone, and computers for simulation sessions as directed.
Serves as a resource for the student workers and lab Assistants working within the Health Professions Simulation Center.
Performs troubleshooting and routine maintenance for the high and low-fidelity simulation trainers and associated equipment.
Assists with the coordination of repairs and annual preventative maintenance on high-fidelity simulators.
Assists with the creation, enhancement, and maintenance of electronic health records.
Provides orientation and support to students and instructors.
Conducts routine inventory and maintains inventory of consumables to support student learning.
Reports inventory status to the Director of Labs/Simulations
Maintain current simulation-related knowledge of Standards of Best Practice through training, conferences, forums, etc. as budget allows.
Collects all data, including evaluation data and Simulation Lab, and reports to the Director of Labs/Simulations
Facilitates, as needed, simulation scenarios for students and provides pre-briefing assistance to health professions instructors.
Effective communication with instructors, students, and other staff members.
Ability to convey technical information clearly and understandably.
HEALTH PROFESSIONS LAB DUTIES:Ensures all laboratory events occurring in health professions are prepared and operational to meet student learning outcomes and objectives.
Serves as a resource for all lab equipment.
Monitors, controls, and serves as a resource for all laboratory equipment.
Provides tours for internal and external groups, for all health professions labs.
Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of laboratory and technology equipment and furnishings.
Maintain inventory, cleanliness, orderliness, and neatness of all labs in the Health Professions Center.
Responsible for tracking and location of all equipment, and reporting damage or loss to the Health Professions Simulations Lab Director, and the appropriate program director. If directed, start the repair process immediately.
Responsible for maintaining a current inventory (once a month) of disposable supplies.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Labs/Simulations, as well as, others within the Division and the College.
Responsible for the SDS in all labs, being current and up to date (monthly check) and for the online system.
Obtain/maintain gather vendor information as requested.
Perform inventory on an annual basis.
Assist in preparation for, and during, accreditation site visits.
Coordinate with Director of Labs/Simulations to schedule and assign student workers, track hours worked, and ensure compliance with weekly hour limits.
Assist faculty with the location, use and care of equipment and their associated technologies.
Oversee and assist as needed/directed in the HP Computer Labs to include troubleshooting and general computer maintenance.
Provide support for students, faculty and administration to insure an optimal learning environment.
Assist with CPR classes for faculty, prospective students, etc.
Ensure required equipment maintenance/calibration is scheduled and completed as needed and maintain related records.
Coordinate with programs to meet laundry needs and schedule.
Assist with Health Professions recruitment activities.
Support division office operations.
Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Labs/Simulations, Dean of Health Professions, or HP Program Directors.
Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.
Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
