Candidates who are ABD will be considered and are strongly encouraged to apply. However, completion of the Ph.D. is required by the end of the first year of appointment (i.e., by May 31, 2025). The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of undergraduate face-to-face courses and to hold regular office hours at our Eagle Pass facilities. The successful candidate will also contribute to the teaching in each of the department's three core academic areas (law enforcement, courts, and corrections).
Teaching will consist face to face, online, and hybrid undergraduate and graduate-level courses.
The candidate is also expected to participate in curriculum development, extension and outreach activities (such as recruitment events) in related area.

The Department of Homeland Security and Criminal Justice of Sul Ross State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice for the Fall of 2025.
Sul Ross is in the process of constructing a brand-new campus in Eagle Pass, Texas. The campus master plan, as approved by the Texas State University System Board of Regents, calls for the development of a four-year university in Eagle Pass to serve up to 10,000 students by 2035.
The successful candidate for the open position will demonstrate an enthusiasm to participate in the rapid expansion of an undergraduate criminal justice program, a love of undergraduate teaching , and interest in research, community service, and an appreciation for the rich cultural milieu of Southwest Texas.
The candidate should have a strong background in at least one of the following core areas, but be able to teach a variety of courses in all three: law enforcement, courts, and corrections.
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology or related disciplines. Other credentials such as a J.D., L.L.M., or S.J.D. will not be sufficient for this position.
This is a full-time. 9-month faculty appointment in Eagle Pass, Texas. The standard teaching load will typically consist of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester, although a course reduction may be possible for candidates who demonstrate a record of productive research or effective community service. Some graduate courses may also be taught.
The undergraduate teaching load will initially consist solely of junior-and senior-level undergraduate courses in the future. Teaching modalities may include traditional face-to-face courses along with online offerings such as virtual meeting courses and web courses.
Other faculty responsibilities will include student advising and participation in departmental, college, and university services.
The candidate is also expected to participate in curriculum development, extension and outreach activities (such as recruitment events) in related areas.

The Sul Ross State University campuses in Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College (RGC). RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor's degrees and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students.
