As a Data Scientist in a statistical team, you will play a key role in advancing research within the University of Pittsburgh Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, specializing in large-scale data integration from various data sources, advanced statistical analysis, and comprehensive study designs for observational studies and clinical trials. You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (i.e., clinical investigators, research coordinators, data managers, and senior statisticians) to support the growth of the department’s research capacities. Through close involvement in manuscript publishing, grant applications, and team development, you will ensure high-quality statistical rigor, study design integrity, and protocol compliance.
Job Summary
Oversees large, complex data sets and utilizes advanced programming methods and statistical software for raw data extraction and aggregation, statistical analysis, and document programming to create analytic data files. Creates statistical reports; assists with manuscripts, grants, and regulatory submissions. Maintains data infrastructure and tracks data assets. Adheres to all protocols.
Essential Functions
Lead statistical analyses and design comprehensive statistical analysis plans for research initiatives.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve research objectives, align with project goals, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
Oversee and manage complex data sets, performing thorough data audits and cleaning to maintain high accuracy.
Integrate data from various sources into cohesive analytical datasets for clinical trials and observational studies.
Utilize SAS, R, and Python for data extraction, transformation, and advanced statistical analysis.
Apply advanced statistical methods, including longitudinal analysis, causal inference, statistical genetics, and machine learning, to support rigorous research outcomes.
Assist in developing statistical models, applying appropriate methodologies, and conducting sample size calculations for study design.
Develop tables and visualizations to support manuscripts, scientific presentations, grant proposals, and regulatory documentation.
Evaluate human subject research protocols to ensure full compliance with regulatory standards.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy across all processes.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for engaging multidisciplinary teams.
Highly organized, with a successful record of project and time management.
Strong collaborative skills for interdisciplinary research and team-oriented projects.
