The Genetics Division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington (UW) Medicine, is recruiting afull-time faculty member on the Clinician-Teacher pathway at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure. Genetics Division faculty members work closely with pathologists, laboratory geneticists, medical geneticists, obstetricians, oncologists, and researchers across UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and Seattle Childrens Hospital. These collaborations take place in a highly collegial, supportive, and interactive environment.
We are seeking an academically oriented candidate to serve as Associate Director of Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Genomics. Clinical review/release of cases and on-call responsibilities will be shared with other Genetics Division faculty, concentrating on the use of cytogenetic and molecular genetic technologies to assess cancer and inherited or rare genetic disorders. As an Associate Director for the Genetics Division's clinical laboratories, the successful candidate will oversee a diverse test menu, including chromosome analysis, FISH, chromosomal microarrays on constitutional and neoplastic specimens, inherited genetic disease testing, noninvasive prenatal screening, and somatic tumor testing. There are opportunities for involvement in method validation and clinical research, which can lead to presentations and scientific publications. Additional responsibilities include teaching residents, fellows, medical students, and undergraduate students in medical laboratory science. The successful candidate is expected to establish a scholarly focus that aligns with their clinical and/or educational interests. Our large clinical laboratory team comprises 20 ABMGG/ABP board-certified laboratory directors who collectively sign out over 25,000 tests annually.

Assistant Professorswithout tenureare eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.This positionremainsopen until filled with a targeted start date of July 1, 2025, but the start date is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $12,131.50to $22,595,50per month ($145,578to $271,146annually); Associate Professors: $15,706.08to $27,441.41per month ($188,473to $329,297annually),commensuratewith experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included inUniversitybenefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a PhD, MD, or foreign equivalent in a relevant field, and should be Board eligible/certified in both ClinicalMolecularGenetics and Clinical Cytogenetics, Laboratory Genetics and Genomics,Molecular Genetic Pathology,Clinical Pathology, and/or other CLIA-recognized board certifications.
