Earlham College is seeking a Marketing Writer/Editor to join our team!
Summary:
The Marketing Writer/Editor will develop, write and edit short- and long-form content for a variety of Earlham College publications and digital outreach efforts. These include but are not limited to feature stories for the Earlhamite magazine, marketing copy for brochures, emails, posters, social media posts and advertisements, and website content. We're looking for a natural storyteller with a knack for copywriting, a creative thinker and a skilled proofreader. The ideal candidate will demonstrate relentless attention to detail, a willingness to learn Earlham's For Good brand voice and tone, and the ability to write in both journalistic and persuasive styles.
The Writer/Editor will proofread copy written by our central marketing and communications team and campus partners for readability, grammar and adherence to brand standards and Earlham's style guidelines.
The Writer/Editor is a member of the central Marketing and Communications team at Earlham, working in partnership with colleagues in various departments to craft content that appeals to prospective students and their families, alumni, donors and members of the campus community. Strong writing skills are a must; the ideal candidate for this role also will have experience with content marketing, scripting for video or visual storytelling and familiarity with the interplay of writing and design. The ability to balance multiple competing priorities is essential.
The Marketing Writer/Editor reports to the Associate Director for Marketing and Communications and works closely with other members of the MarCom team to enhance our written work. The marketing and communications staff plays an essential role in helping Earlham achieve its enrollment and fundraising goals. As a result, we take our work seriously and understand its strategic importance. That said, we don't take ourselves too seriously - yes, we have a shared sense of purpose, but we also have a great sense of humor.
This is an in-person role, but Marketing and Communications staffers can work from home one day a week. Earlham's culture is guided by our Principles and Practices, and in our collective work, we strive to create an environment of community and mutual respect.

Essential Functions:
Create a variety of written content on a daily basis; collaborate on communications strategy, design and execution.
Meet with colleagues in MarCom and campus partners regularly to understand their needs, identify opportunities for integrated messaging or collaboration and eliminate duplication of efforts.
Identify and interview students, faculty members, alumni and others whose experiences and personalities help bring the Earlham story to life.
Develop custom, personalized messaging where applicable.
Create content and stories for a variety of uses, including email marketing, event programs and promotions, print and digital publications, storytelling microsites, social media posts, fundraising communications, video scripts, the College's website and more.
Work with the Marketing and Communications team to identify the best stories and determine the most compelling way(s) to tell them.
Keep track of work in progress for campus partners, ensuring that deadlines are met and that the status of projects or individual writing assignments are clearly and regularly communicated.
Edit or rewrite existing copy as necessary.
Proofread written communications before publishing.
Develop brief content quickly on tight deadlines.
Other duties as assigned. Occasional evening or weekend work is required.
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, creative writing or related field or commensurate experience.
A minimum of 3 years' experience writing and/or editing in a professional setting.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Research and interviewing in either a journalistic or marketing context.
Curating content to serve multiple audiences with different needs/interests.
Relationship-building with clients or collaborators
Excellent writing and editing skills with knowledge of grammar and style guidelines.
Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration.
The ability to develop content for a variety of media that captures an organization's voice.
The ability to tell evocative, inspiring stories concisely.
Experience in managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines and working in a fast-paced, high-performing environment.
An openness to telling stories in new, innovative or unexpected ways.
Creative and critical thinking skills, organization and attention to detail.
The ability to focus while balancing multiple projects simultaneously.
