We have a renewable continuing non-tenure-track Lecturer and Coordinator position beginning July 1, 2025. The Department of Mathematics seeks an exceptional teacher with a proven track-record in calculus instruction and
skills to coordinate our calculus program.
The teaching responsibility will be an average of 4.5 calculus courses per year. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, and must be able to demonstrate an exemplary teaching record, coordination skills and a commitment to mentoring undergraduates.
A successful candidate will fully participate in the life of the department. On top of teaching and regular service, the position carries the responsibilities of coordinating our calculus courses (which includes initial calculus placement online activities during the summer), as well as organizing departmental teaching assistants, learning assistants, graders and tutors.
To apply, please provide all of the following:
● a cover letter, which addresses your specific reasons for seeking this position at Colby, which is a liberal arts institution;
● CV;
● a three-page statement on teaching calculus in the present day, describing practical pedagogical strategies, concrete experiences of their implementation in your calculus courses, and your commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching.
● all official summary evaluation sheets from the courses taught during the past three (3) academic years;
● at least three (3) letters of recommendation submitted directly by the recommenders, which should focus on the particulars of your teaching and mentoring experience, as well as your organizational skills.
All materials should be submitted online at www.mathjobs.org. Review of complete applications will begin on January 15, 2025. Candidates who are selected for the short list will be asked to participate in a Zoom interview in early February, and to provide a short video recording of an at-the-board calculus presentation (more detailed instructions will be issued in this regard). The finalists will be invited to campus for on-site interviews in mid-to-late February, and we expect to be able to extend an offer to a successful candidate by early March.
