Job Description:

SUMMARY

The California Department of Public Health Immunization Branch provides leadership and support to public and private sector efforts to protect the population against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Under guidance of the School-Located Vaccine Program Administrator, the School Located Vaccine Coordinator performs a variety of duties necessary for the support, implementation and evaluation of school-located vaccination clinics and policy activities within the COVID-19 Vaccination Program of the CDPH Immunization Branch.  The Coordinator provides project management and analytical capacity for policy and program activities related to vaccines received at schools.  These activities include vaccination clinic implementation and evaluation, guidance for local health departments and schools/school districts, and coordination with stakeholders such as community-based organizations, offices of education, pharmacies, school nursing programs, health systems, and organizations and agencies serving vulnerable populations.  Duties also include progress reporting, convening meetings and workgroups, compiling best practices, and collaboration on internal and external communications related to school vaccination planning and implementation. 

This is a grant-funded, full time, benefitted position through June 2025 and may be extended if funding is available.

Salary range: $37.02 to $52.88 an hour.

Must be able to work occasional flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Support school-located vaccination events. Identify statewide or local assets and resources and match them with needs of schools or school districts to immunize at schools. 

  • Support the California Immunization Coalition (CIC) in creation and maintenance of a California school-located vaccination toolkit. 

  •  Facilitate school and local health jurisdiction understanding and use of the CIC school-located vaccination toolkit. 

  • Monitor and track school-located vaccination activities; compile best practices resulting in higher rates of student vaccination.

  •  Support data collection and management to track, monitor and evaluate school-located vaccination efforts statewide. 

  • Develop timelines and project management documents as needed.

  • Work with retail and independent pharmacies, school nursing programs, community health centers, school-based health centers or community partners to coordinate school-located vaccination. 

  • Provide program specialty consultation and technical assistance to local jurisdictions and schools organizing school-located vaccination. 

  • Identify and troubleshoot barriers to school-located vaccination. 

  •  Coordinate the deployment of and effective utilization of State-controlled vaccination resources to support school-located vaccination where needed. 

  • Work with partners to ensure training materials related to school-located vaccination remain up-to-date.

  • Coordinate across organizational sections and lines of effort within CDPH.

  • Coordinate with additional external stakeholders as needed, including medical provider groups, health systems, and organizations and agencies serving vulnerable populations to promote school-located vaccinations.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and providing technical assistance related to school vaccination law and vaccination reporting as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Immunization Branch and/or California COVID-19 Vaccination Program.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • At least three years working in public health, required

  • At least 1 year experience in grant management, project management or quality improvement, required

  • Experience with public health writing such as: grants, progress reports, needs assessment or evaluation reports

  • Experience developing and maintaining collaborations with diverse partner groups (including schools or offices of education)

  • Ability to solve problems proactively with minimal direction

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially use of Microsoft Excel for budgets, workplans, and timelines

  • Demonstrate reliability, integrity, and attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes



 Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree, required

  • Two years of experience in project management, especially in public health, preferred

  • Experience in coordinating complex projects

This position is remote and must be available during normal Pacific Time Zone working hours.

Must have functional internet in remote location.
