A Day in the Life
In this exciting and challenging role as a test engineer, your responsibilities will include: Designing, developing, and implementing testing methods and equipment. Plans and arranges schedules, and equipment required for verifying products. Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Responsible for writing verification test plans and reports.

This will be a hybrid position which requires person to be on site for test method development and supervising of product verification testing.
A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned by test engineers.


  • Plan and execute reliability demonstration/ product design verification activities - understands and applies product design verification methods & principles for developing design verification, and reliability allocation / test strategies.

  • Develop appropriate shelf life and use/ service life acceleration profiles and reliability characterization / evaluation strategy by understanding relevant use cases and use conditions for the products.

  • Develops, coordinates and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs.

  • Develops design or test methods, performs design characterization and design verification test activities associated with insulin pumps, sensor and other products for achieving required levels of product reliability.

  • Completes risk analysis studies of new design and processes - Partner and review risk management deliverables like design and process failure modes effects analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA) and Hazard Analysis and generate fault tree analysis as appropriate.

  • Utilize the risk management and robust design principles to understand essential design outputs / critical to quality (CTQ) attributes by partnering with appropriate design team members in early design and development and develop test methodologies to demonstrate effectiveness.

  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards.

  • Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives.

  • May develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks.

  • As necessary, proposes changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability.

  • May determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing, and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.

  • Delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results.

  • Leading CAPA projects and assisting post market analysis.

  • May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower-level professionals.

  • The majority of time is spent delivering and overseeing the projects from design to implementation while and adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills normally acquired through advanced education (typically University).

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2+ years of technical testing or engineering experience

OR

Advanced degree with a minimum of 0+ years of technical testing or engineering experience

Nice to Have


  • Solid command of the English language, both written and verbal. A technical writing sample may be requested.

  • Demonstrated history of working effectively in cross-functional teams

  • Ability to work independently and with others as a member of a team

  • Quality/Reliability Engineering experience in a regulatory environment (e.g., Medical, Aerospace).

  • Experienced with statistical analysis of data (e.g., MiniTab, Weibull ++, etc.)

  • Experience with DFMEA, Accelerated Life Testing, Risk Analysis, ORT, Reliability Growth, and/or Demonstration Testing

  • Advanced degree in engineering (M.S. or PhD) • Experience in medical device industry

  • Experience with reviewing reliability requirements

  • Superior understanding of electromechanical devices, battery-powered devices, and/or electrochemical reactions.

  • Proven success with management of engineering projects, including executing complex reliability test flows

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$80,800.00 - $121,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
