Position Overview
The Sr. Strategic Commercial Analyst (Retail) is responsible for driving profitability and strategic growth within a specific set of key retail partners in a designated channel (e.g., grocery, mass, club, etc.). This role focuses on deep channel and retailer-specific insights, working closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to maximize channel profitability and identify opportunities for growth. The Senior Strategic Commercial Analyst will deliver actionable recommendations to senior leadership on pricing, promotions, product optimization, and go-to-market strategies to meet both retailer-specific goals and overall company objectives.
Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities
Channel & Retailer Profitability Analysis
Analyze profitability across a select set of retail partners within a specific channel, identifying key drivers of revenue, margin, and growth.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize retailer-specific pricing, promotions, and trade spend, ensuring alignment with overall channel strategy.
Evaluate the financial impact of promotional activities and trade agreements, recommending adjustments to maximize profitability and improve performance.
Retailer-Specific Growth Strategy
Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to develop and execute growth strategies tailored to key retailers in the assigned channel.
Identify market trends, consumer behavior shifts, and competitor activity within the channel, providing insights that drive strategic growth opportunities.
Recommend strategies to optimize product assortment, pricing, and promotional tactics that align with retailer objectives and drive mutual profitability.
Financial Planning & Forecasting (Retail Focus)
Prepare and analyze customer P&Ls, partner with sales to recommend strategic adjustments to drive customer profitability and achieve performance goals.
Support the financial planning process by developing accurate forecasts and budgets for sales, profitability, and trade spend within the assigned retailer set.
Conduct variance analysis to compare actual performance against forecasts, providing actionable insights and recommendations for corrective actions.
Partner with the FP&A team to ensure that retailer-specific financial plans align with overall company objectives and performance targets.
Pricing, Promotions & Trade Optimization
Analyze the effectiveness of pricing, promotional activities, and trade investment for assigned retailers, providing recommendations to maximize revenue and profitability.
Work closely with the Revenue Growth Management (RGM) and sales teams to develop optimal pricing strategies and trade terms that drive profitable growth within the channel.
Monitor competitive pricing and promotional strategies within the channel, ensuring that the company's offerings remain competitive and aligned with market dynamics.
Retailer & Channel Product Analysis
Conduct detailed product performance analysis for SKUs within assigned retailers, focusing on profitability, lifecycle management, and retailer preferences.
Collaborate with the product development team to assess the financial viability of new product launches within the channel, ensuring alignment with retailer-specific strategies.
Provide recommendations on product line adjustments, discontinuations, and packaging modifications to optimize performance within key retailers.
Retailer Relationship Support
Serve as a key financial and strategic partner to sales teams managing relationships with select retailers, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to support negotiations.
Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to develop retailer-specific presentations and strategies that drive growth and profitability.
Participate in retailer meetings and joint business planning sessions, presenting financial insights and contributing to the development of long-term retailer partnerships.
May be asked to perform additional duties as necessary.
Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field. MBA or relevant master's degree preferred.
7+ years of experience in commercial analysis, retail channel strategy, or FP&A roles, preferably within CPG, retail, or consumer goods industries.
Experience with Community Coffee, even if unrelated, may fulfill this requirement at the discretion of the hiring manager with approval from Human Resources
Demonstrated experience in driving profitability and growth within key retailers or retail channels.
Strong understanding of retailer relationships and how to optimize product assortment, pricing, and trade spend for mutual profitability.

Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
